I'm not writing one, I like the idea of people scrapping over my stuff when I am gone. It would be great to see the looks on their faces when they realise I died penniless.

"Sprocket was an honest man
he will be sadly missed.
But he didn't leave us anything
so let's all just get..... a drink at the bar...."

I love that haha! That right there is gonna be my Boot Hill tombstone! Thanks Gordi.

Found randomly on the net after googling "funny fake eulogy" (just for giggles):

Please join me in remembering a great icon.
Veteran Pillsbury spokesperson, The Pillsbury Doughboy, died yesterday of a severe yeast infection and complications from repeated pokes to the belly.
He was 71.

Doughboy was buried in a slightly greased coffin.
Dozens of celebrities turned out, including Mrs. Butterworth, the California Raisins, Hungry Jack, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, Captain Crunch and many others.

The graveside was piled high with "flours" as long-time friend, Aunt Jemima, delivered the eulogy, describing Doughboy as a man who "never knew how much he was kneaded."

Doughboy rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with many turnovers.
He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes. Despite being a little flaky at times, even as a crusty old man, he was still considered a roll model for millions.

Toward the end it was thought he'd raise once again, but he was no tart.

Doughboy is survived by his second wife, Play Dough.
They have two children and one in the oven.
The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes.

This is an ATS Short Story Writers Contest Thread!

It is OPEN to ALL ATS MEMBERS! (Yes, even YOU!)

There are prizes to be won in the form of ATS "Applause" and even the opportunity for entrants to acquire official ATS "writer" status!
But it is more about sharing our creative ideas, encouraging & developing new talent and having Fun!

The theme this time around has been chosen by our current contest champion: JinMI, and is as follows:

Your Own Eulogy [YOE2018]

Your Own Eulogy. [YOE2018]
The day of your very death.
It wasn't planned, or was it?
Regardless, you've had the forethought to compose your own remarks and wish to address them to your loved ones...or perhaps had the last word with a nemesis.
Maybe you've arranged a party or a few pranks.
What will it all look like and what will the words be spoken sound like?

So, you are tasked with writing a short story which relates to that challenging theme!

The term "Eulogy" is defined as:

a speech or piece of writing that praises someone or something highly, especially a tribute to someone who has just died.

YOU can interpret that definition any way that you like - Make it funny, make it scary, or make it a tear-jerker - it's entirely up to you.

TO ENTER:
Post your story in a new thread within the SHORT STORY Forum HERE
Then place a post with a link (to your story thread) here in this contest thread to enter.

Rules Of Entry:
Original written stories only please.

The contest will run from NOW to Thurs 22nd November 2018.
(Any submissions after that date will be disqualified.)

A period of ONE WEEK after the closing of the contest will be provided for voting.

All T&C's Apply.

All entries MUST include [YOE2018] in the title. (e.g. "My Eulogy Story" [YOE2018] )

All entries must be linked in this thread.

There is no minimum or maximum character count, and the entry can be submitted over one or more posts, but please bear in mind that it is a SHORT STORY contest!

Also, please END your submission with "THE END" so that everyone is clear that your entry is complete.

1 Single Story Submission is allowed Per Member.

WINNERS:
There will be 3 winners among members who already have ATS "Writer" status, prizes as follows:

1st Place -- 5 Applause, and selection of the next contest theme (limited to one in a row)
2nd Place -- 3 Applause
3rd Place -- 1 Applause

There will also be 3 winners from the non-writer category who will receive the following:

1st Place -- 3 Applause & Writer Status
2nd Place -- 2 Applause & Writer Status
3rd Place -- 1 Applause

Scoring

Points are awarded by ATS members giving FLAGS to their favourite story threads and STARS to their favourite story posts.
(You can award a Flag and/or star(s) to any stories that you like, but please don't give flags or stars for any other reasons.)

Flags awarded will be worth 2 points each.
Stars will be worth 1 point each.
*Stars for subsequent posts (i.e. additions to the story after the initial story post) will be worth 0.5 points.

If the winner of the "Writers" section is the same person who chose the current theme, then the opportunity to choose the next theme will fall to the runner up.

Any questions about the Theme itself should be directed to JinMI this time around, and I will be happy to answer any general questions about the contests/rules etc myself.

As always... GOOD LUCK and HAVE some eulogical FUN!

G

Something like that. As to why with my writing perspective on the story, figured a way around it, being it was set in the future and as most want to go, peacefully.

Also, bumping up the thread for more stories!

Unfortunately, it looks like we don't have enough entries to "fill the podium" on either side of this month's contest.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to declare this one
NULL & VOID.

Many thanks to everyone who entered, commented or read the stories.

I'll now have a wee think about what to do next...
Watch This Space!

Understood Gordi-Drums.

Not much merit to reaching the podium by default anyways.

Thanks for all of the effort you put into these events.

Wondering the same here, just so we know future reference, especially if having to submit later on.

I'd guess at 6, so at least each prize slot is filled with 3 writers and 3 non writers?
