This is an ATS Short Story Writers Contest Thread!

It is OPEN to ALL ATS MEMBERS! (Yes, even YOU!)

There are prizes to be won in the form of ATS "Applause" and even the opportunity for entrants to acquire official ATS "writer" status!
But it is more about sharing our creative ideas, encouraging & developing new talent and having Fun!

The theme this time around has been chosen by our current contest champion: JinMI, and is as follows:

Your Own Eulogy [YOE2018]

Your Own Eulogy. [YOE2018]
The day of your very death.
It wasn't planned, or was it?
Regardless, you've had the forethought to compose your own remarks and wish to address them to your loved ones...or perhaps had the last word with a nemesis.
Maybe you've arranged a party or a few pranks.
What will it all look like and what will the words be spoken sound like?

So, you are tasked with writing a short story which relates to that challenging theme!

The term "Eulogy" is defined as:

a speech or piece of writing that praises someone or something highly, especially a tribute to someone who has just died.

YOU can interpret that definition any way that you like - Make it funny, make it scary, or make it a tear-jerker - it's entirely up to you.

TO ENTER:
Post your story in a new thread within the SHORT STORY Forum HERE
Then place a post with a link (to your story thread) here in this contest thread to enter.

Rules Of Entry:
Original written stories only please.

The contest will run from NOW to Thurs 22nd November 2018.
(Any submissions after that date will be disqualified.)

A period of ONE WEEK after the closing of the contest will be provided for voting.

All T&C's Apply.

All entries MUST include [YOE2018] in the title. (e.g. "My Eulogy Story" [YOE2018] )

All entries must be linked in this thread.

There is no minimum or maximum character count, and the entry can be submitted over one or more posts, but please bear in mind that it is a SHORT STORY contest!

Also, please END your submission with "THE END" so that everyone is clear that your entry is complete.

1 Single Story Submission is allowed Per Member.

WINNERS:
There will be 3 winners among members who already have ATS "Writer" status, prizes as follows:

1st Place -- 5 Applause, and selection of the next contest theme (limited to one in a row)
2nd Place -- 3 Applause
3rd Place -- 1 Applause

There will also be 3 winners from the non-writer category who will receive the following:

1st Place -- 3 Applause & Writer Status
2nd Place -- 2 Applause & Writer Status
3rd Place -- 1 Applause

Scoring

Points are awarded by ATS members giving FLAGS to their favourite story threads and STARS to their favourite story posts.
(You can award a Flag and/or star(s) to any stories that you like, but please don't give flags or stars for any other reasons.)

Flags awarded will be worth 2 points each.
Stars will be worth 1 point each.
*Stars for subsequent posts (i.e. additions to the story after the initial story post) will be worth 0.5 points.

If the winner of the "Writers" section is the same person who chose the current theme, then the opportunity to choose the next theme will fall to the runner up.

Any questions about the Theme itself should be directed to JinMI this time around, and I will be happy to answer any general questions about the contests/rules etc myself.

As always... GOOD LUCK and HAVE some eulogical FUN!

G

A man walks up to a widow at her husband's funeral and says, "May I say a word?"

She nods and the man walks up and stands in front of everyone and says, Plethora".

He walks back down and she said, "Thanks. That means a lot."

Interesting theme, might have to give it a go.

I know (and fully understand) that it's not always the easiest of topics to discuss or write about, but I did see some funny Epitaphs online earlier today.

Including one for a Lawyer called Mr Strange.
His headstone read something like:
"Here lies an honest Lawyer.
Strange"

Another one read:
"I told you I was Sick"

and I particularly liked:
"Died from not forwarding that message to 10 people"

Apparently Mozart's epitaph reads:
"Here lies Mozart - Decomposing!"

Now.... Eulogies...????
They're harder!

hmmmm, could be I suppose.
Is it like some people being scared to write a will in case they then die?

I've been so busy working on the machine that my yarn-spinning has fallen by the wayside.

I think I'll turn something in this time.

In spite of it all.

Sorry Gordi, I have been following along and voting in your contests. The love and desire is still there but, due to a series of unfortunate events...my muse has not been responding.

Perhaps soon I can shake it off and play along, in the meanwhile...I'll raise a glass and read along and vote.

I'm not writing one, I like the idea of people scrapping over my stuff when I am gone. It would be great to see the looks on their faces when they realise I died penniless.

"Sprocket was an honest man
he will be sadly missed.
But he didn't leave us anything
so let's all just get..... a drink at the bar...."

Thanks DoE and Birdy!
It's great to hear that you're still around and participating in some shape or form.
Seems like everyone has a LOT going on in RL just now.
Time of the year maybe?
