It's a show of force, as a deterrent. The fact remains that if any of these migrants make it to the legitimate border crossings and get one toe on the US side then claim they are seeking asylum we have to let that person in. They get detained, taken care of, provided everything they need, and their day in court, a process that can take months or years. Of course, all at taxpayers expense.

The best that can be done is to try to deter them from reaching that point. The military really can't do anything, they aren't allowed to carry weapons.

Heard today, Border Patrol is apprehending 1,000+ a day now. 3,500 is less than 4 days worth as the situation now stands. The border does need to be sealed, now.

Edit: That's 365,000 a year as the situation now exists. The border needs closing...

The President can deploy troops if there's an insurrection or invasion on U.S. soil, its all part of the Posse Comitatus Act. And i for one have no problem with them on our borders, especially when we are about to be illegal invaded. i mean, really what would you want if we were really invaded? maybe just leave them over in the middle east ganking more oil? wake up dude, this is an invasion does'nt matter that they just want to move here it is not being done legally making it a invasion. but in the end it wont matter, they will just end up using some tunnels the mexicans dug that we have'nt found yet and end up miles behind the military at the border.

I did find this....From 2006 to 2008, Bush deployed 6,000 National Guard personnel when the government was trying to hire more CBP agents. Obama activated 1,200 National Guard from 2010 to 2012 to strengthen border security.

Those "token" deploys may have been failure by design.

Its not an invasion though.

a invasion to me implies a military operation to control territory.

This is a criminal matter of people entering the state illegally and as such should be dealt with as a criminal matter in the way it always has been.

For me when you start using the military for matters of law enforcement domestically I start to see a case for calling it martial law.

i dont know man, it really seems like an invasion to me, from what i have seen in videos of how they been acting along the way that is not a peaceful migrant caravan headed this way. and on top of it they are not going about it the right way. some have took asylum offered in mexico the rest should have done the same. illegal imigrants should be blocked from entering and find a legal way. when i was caught doing something illegal in the past i was locked up for it fined got nothing free. if the enter illegally they will get free room and board and healthcare that taxpayers have to pay for. thats like a slap in the face if you ask me.

It seems like a slap in the face because that's what it is.

At the very least, should these criminals attempt to enter this country, they should be made an example of.

As I said earlier, heavy artillery can be an EXTREMELY effective deterrent.

And quite cost-effective, as well.
