Only two ways that this can play out without someone going to jail. Either as you said they commit suicide or they already fled the country. As I've noted previously (on this thread I believe), what puzzles me is, why send a 'potentially' active device which is clearly intended not to go off??? Why not just send a clearly inert device instead? There's no significant psychological or media value-add with the former over the latter. They would achieve the same result. Unless...

I thought about this for much of the day yesterday and this is the only reason I can think of:

I wonder if the perpetrators, knowing full well the devices would not detonate on their own, surmised authorities would remotely detonate them upon discovery?

A piece of PVC pipe that large, filled with black powder and shards of glass, might not have enough compressive strength to cause a true "explosion", but it would sure make for one hell of a big BANG and a lot of smoke! And, that would be one hell of a media spectacle!

I am convinced this whole event was intended to create a media spectacle more than it was intended to harm people. This was all for show. The above speculation would seem to fit with this narrative.

I'm a crazy person and it takes one to know one. He would most likely to be intelligent and irrational, after all the looking up bomb templates on the web would be like a ninja with a marching band, but then again there is this dark web thingy.

Schedule 40 PVC can hold up to enough pressure before rupturing to make an impressive explosion. The casing would create SOME shrapnel, not as much as if the casing was metal.
In PVC pipe bombs, shrapnel is often added in with the explosive material (ie nails, bbs, broken glass), the effectiveness of the device is highly dependant on what explosive is used. Black powder is less effective than smokeless powder, smokeless powder is less effective than TNT or other military grade explosives.

So much about this stupid, from the bomb construction (Neither a sophisticated fake, nor a sufficiently well made bomb).

If it was some state backed effort (false flag, Saudi Arabia looking for distraction, FSB looking to stoke divisional and mess with the election) these would have been well made, fake or real.

And it would be way, way, way to big a risk for any foreign government to even play like this.

The ONLY thing that makes me consider that this perp is NOT a low IQ individual...is that he still remains at large.

If these aren't purposeful actions for distraction then it seems to be a comedy of errors, other than the seriousness of the attempt.

Thus far...Florida appears to be the area of the country authorities are focusing in on.
