Why can't we have a thumbs down!

We are about positivity and encouraging others. If you have a disagreement you should be able to articulate why. A thumbs down button equates to a blind outburst of emotion.

You have the emotional capacity to know you have been angered. Congratulations, you are at reptilian level brain functioning.

In order to awaken your mammalian brain, you will need the intelligence (which also includes the patience necessary) to express your displeasure in a way that articulates Why you are not pleased and if you are a real go-getter, Why the person who displeased you ought to change their thoughts or behaviors.

Lashing out at those who displeased you is nice and all. But it's a little more satisfying to be able to actually communicate our pleasures and displeasures. You can learn a lot from each other that way. You're not allergic to learning, are you?

I don't know how else to explain it. *shrug*

Edit- I'm sorry, I know I sound like a rude jerk but I am really just a tough love type. I can't help it that I love everyone so much that I want to see you all do better than me, just like a proud parent.

ATS is not like Burger King, you get it ATS way or don't get the SOB at all....

Changing it to an upvote/downvote system would let forum gangs brigade topics and comments on ATS like they do everywhere else.

Anyone else find it strange that it’s just new members of a certain political persuasion that want this so bad?

Not sounding like a jerk at all.

Giving a post a "star" could also be an outburst of emotion. Yet you can hand out stars without explanation. If there is a need to explain your position against something, then maybe it should be required to post your thoughts on why you think a particular thought is correct, before being allowed to give it a star.

Not trying to be a jerk either, just a thought, and well after all it is the rant forum.

To be fair, I have been here a long time. Mostly reading, rarely posting. I found the site probably back in 2008 give or take. I had another account with the username of KnowMore, but lost the password, and email account associated with it. Still kept reading, but did not feel the need to post again until 2016 when I created this account. I still don't post a whole lot, just read, most every day.

Maybe I will do that sometime. It is actually a business for me, not just a hobby. I own a small company that builds RC products.

Skeptic Overlord (Bill) used to make appearances, but has not been here in years,

He posted on the boards in August this year and it was a couple of weeks ago when he last logged in.

Springer shows up once in awhile if the subject is Skinwalker Ranch or one of his other interests.

He's here every day.

And replies from little cliques are quasi-automatically awarded
limiting input from others outside of the 'accepted' bubble

Compared to a few years ago their presence is nowhere near what it was. ATS is obviously a back-burner operation. Absolutely nothing has been fixed for years. We plain folk here on ATS are at the mercy of the moderators.

ATS would be like a Christmas panto. Every time a certain member posted there'd be a chorus of boos in the form of multiple thumbs down.

I actually think the whole star and flag system should just be removed, just record number of posts and views that would do.

I really don't like the flag, stars and applause system. Stars is broken anyway.
