OK, ATS. The star and flag system is all great I guess, but why can't there also be a thumbs down button or something similar? I see so many people posting things that I don't agree with. I would like the opportunity to express my displeasure of certain posts, I am sure that others would agree. No need to revamp the whole score system, but it sure would be interesting to see how stars, and thumbs down stack up against each other on individual posts.

Seems only fair that people can disagree, and not just agree to what was written.

Heh.

Dude.

You think people aren't petty AF?

It would literally create even worse forum gangs.

It wouldn't even be oh I disagree yadda yadda, it would literally be chain stalking downers.

TBH we had it at one point it didn't last very long.

And I dont see the Amigos working on any of the ATS code any time soon lol.

The idea has been brought up many times and the resounding consensous is the star and flag system are just fine the way they are.

Beacuse there are so many viewpoints on ATS that EVERY view is a minority view.
So if the "thumbs down" was allowed, every single post would be drowned in them.
This site is not about enforcing a consensus by sheer weight of numbers overwhelming diversity with disapproval; that's what Twitter is for.

There is a way of expressing disagreement here, but it requires a little more effort. You are expected to put words together.

44, but some days I feel older. Crap starts falling apart at this age.

I should have checked to see if this had been asked. I did not. My apologies.

yeah because that works so well on some reddit forums where they allready have people they dont politically like labled with mass tagger so they know who to down vote just by seeing the nice yellow star, is partisan enough around here with out throwing that kind of stuff into the mix

Never used reddit, so I had no idea. I can see where it would be abused.

Go to reddit it’s what your looking for.
If you don’t agree with a post, then post your own counter argument and see how many stars you get. If some one agrees with you then you will see.
I feel like people would just un-star a post because they hold some personal grudge or know your opinions on other topics they don’t agree with.

Bad idea in my opinion

No worries. Some days I feel like an immature child, others like an old man.

It was an honest question, but I should have looked into it before posting. I hate most social media. This forum, and a hobby one is about the only ones I am on. I despise fartbook. LOL

Yes, it's been brought up many times. In the distant past, when the owners were actually present on the board, they told us it would not happen because they would rather "accentuate the positive." However, the plain truth of the matter is that you will not see ANY changes to ATS, including bug fixes, because ATS is on autopilot and has been for some time. Of the Three Amigos who own ATS Simon has been absent since before I started. Skeptic Overlord (Bill) used to make appearances, but has not been here in years, and Springer shows up once in awhile if the subject is Skinwalker Ranch or one of his other interests.

If you disagree with something you should be able to come up with a good counterpoint. Seems pretty lazy to just be able to click a disagree button and move on. I mean at least this way you have to put some small amount of effort into disagreeing. I mean this is supposed to be a discussion forum.

because to control the masses, only reward systems work.
this is evident in most mainstream forums or social media comments sections.

sometimes they show only the thumbs up and omit the downs.
its a way to influence or sway an opinion, right or wrong.

on ats, a conservative site, far right flags always out perform anything else, even when wrong or just mental.

if there was a negative reward system, the daily logins or user counts would be substantially less.

it doesn't matter if my comment is right, the above comment will get less stars than the more pointless replies .. and there's nothing that can stop that.

the powers that be are slowly realizing the ramifications of the internet which is why FB Twitter et al are being more and more scrutinized by the governments.

Never take yourself too seriously around here.. or anywhere on the internet. Your Dynasty may evaporate at any moment. Despite what a lot think, this is not a competition for stars and flags... I have been fined more than many people have received, and am not much liked in some circles, but if your here long enough, you will see a pattern of gaming the S&F's where two or three banter for great lengths of time between themselves racking up the score like a pin ball machine.

If your only interest is the mud pit or attacking the religious forum, then I suppose your where you need to be. There are over a hundred forums here on ATS that you might want to participate in, and there are some very nice appealing personalities here.

Once you just come here to do battle, well you loose a lot of the Forum Usefulness.

If your keeping score with ups or downs, well good for you... Enjoy the Forum.
