Take the top twenty country chart every year and most of the music is twang.
A few are pretty good.

It's ok I guess, never was much of a hootie fan either.

I compare country music to rap music.
There are some songs that are pretty damn good but for the most part I don't like the style.

That’s pretty much how I feel about heavy metal, and other genres. I like some of it, but on a whole, it’s just not my cup of tea.

Each to their own in music taste. I have enough diversity of interest to please my palette in music.

Now that is awesome and I sing it with some guys in a band from work. Ok so add Darius and then his Blowfish get a pass too.

Have you ever cranked up Thank God I’m a country boy and boosted the bass? That song (pardon the reference ) rocks.

Anyone that doesn’t believe me can give it a try right now .

I’ve got a pretty good read on you in the short time I’ve been here. Look up “Reble Son” on YouTube . ( start with quit your bitching ) I would post it here but I know it’s in violation of TOS.

They have a heavy twang most the time. But I guarantee you that you will like it .

I was in a local talent show for CMT three years in a row but wasn't cute enough to get over the top. I sang three diff Denver songs and got enough crowd approval I thought I might wins something.. but nah... I have mentioned as a white guy I do sing at a mostly black church once a month and it is very fun.

I love old school outlaw country. Grew up on Shotgun Willie. And the devil shivered in his sleeping bag.

Also grew up on western swing. My grandparents went to school with Al Stricklin and so my family knew Bob Wills.

I've heard new country that kicks ass, but I've also heard new country that sucks until the lead comes around, then it sounds like Michael Schenker and Randy Rhoads sneaked in and recorded the lead guitar parts. Pretty strange

Still, I prefer 70s country to modern stuff.

Much newer country is engineered, produced and written in the same manner and formula as pop music. It's auto-tuned, uses the same chord progressions and even has many of the same themes as club music lol. Drinking, cars (trucks) and women. There's some older country I can listen to, Cash, some stuff more along the lines of folk, but most of it seems meticulously engineered to appeal to a demographic that I'm not part of for profit.

Isn't that the truth!

However it's sad to toss out the baby with the bathwater. Every once in awhile you get something that surprises you.
@ Sheye, I heard it first by Old Crow Medicine Show. But this is the best of both worlds.

My problem is what I'd consider Country usually isn't, it's Bluegrass, Folk or ALT or whatever. Gave up awhile back and just go by what I like anymore. Which is everything but heavy Metal or rap. Altho there is some Norwegian Metal I liked, an WhoTF doesn't like PSY????

Never not gonna love the sound of a National, or Steel Petal or even just some good slide. Just depends on who's doing the picking. The Smithsonian Archives are a treasure trove of stuff as well.

Thanks for the heads up TinySickTears!!

For me, the last time "popular" country came close to sounding good was back when Steve Earle and Dwight Yoakam were bringing back a more trad sound.

Nowadays they're a little harder to find but there are some gems.

Pretty much what you said. Though I like that Aaron dude from Staind, his country stuff is good.

Lost interest in most country after the 90s, it turned pseudo pop and recycles too many themes.

Love me some Johnny Cash, John Anderson, and George Strait, from about the 60s to mid-90s.

Guilty pleasure is Garth Brooks though, for some reason love his stuff.
