Maybe Zaph can tell me what sort of water bombing plane this one was. It's the first I've seen out this ways with skis.

Gotta be positive. Brigades are out there now in the dark. I'm cooling it here on my back verandah.

You're right. Needed something to eat and a drink.

At the risk of sounding trite, where is this fire, don't need to know your address but this is an international site after all.

Good luck and stay safe.

Good to hear.

My parents were in a similar situation a few days ago but the wind turned and they got ahead of the worst.

Have a cold one to wash it down.

Hiya fella, I've PMd Zaph about your plane with the skis. Good to see it looks like they've got the brunt of it under control. News report said 500 hectares were BBQd before their best efforts managed to smother its progress and path. You'll be feeling a bit of relief there.

Sky news report with footage

Further SE a heli pilot lost his life in a crash whilst waterbombing a fire. 188 Antipodean firefighting personnel recently flew to the US to help battle fires in Cali.

Every now and then I count my blessings that I live in the urban corners of a wet island nation. We've had a bunch of wildfires this summer and I posted photos of one that was only a handful of miles away. Ours are very mild compared to yours and other countries. Glad you're gonna be OK.

Looks like a Pilatus PC-6 Porter with floats and converted for wildfire duty.

Hard to tell from that angle but it might be an AT-802F Fire Boss.

Actually, yeah that would make more sense, and they are used extensively for fire duty as well. The squared wings and elevators along with the tapered fuselage just brought the Pilatus to mind right away.

Thanks Kardinsky for your thoughts. 1.15am here at the moment. Nice glow out the back door.

Go to "Fires Near Me." NSW Rural Fire Service. This is the one on my back door so to speak.

"A bush fire is burning in the in the vicinity of Old Glen Innes Road, Buccarumbi, approximately 30km south-west of Grafton. The fire has burnt 2,154 hectares and is out of control."

Then there's this one at the other end of the road east of me. But not particularly worried about that fire as it's under control.
ALERT LEVEL: Advice
LOCATION: 3520 Armidale Rd, Nymboida, NSW 2460
COUNCIL AREA: Clarence Valley
STATUS: Being controlled
TYPE: Bush Fire
FIRE: Yes
SIZE: 1630 ha
RESPONSIBLE AGENCY:

So you can see there is a fair bit of land now burnt.

I'm at the eastern end of the Buccarumbi fire west of Nymboida.

Winds have eased although the odd gust comes out of no where. Neighbours to my west have started clearing out and containment lines are being done with the use of a dozer and grader.

Me, I may have a coffee and lay down on the lounge.

Kind regards,

bally

Thanks mate. Another one that was active later on was single engine, small. Had a pod under one wing only. I imagine that may be difficult to land with.
