Residents of San Francisco complain not only about the high cost of housing but also the often-unsanitary conditions of the city’s sidewalks. Now the city is taking steps to address at least one of those problems.

San Francisco has 22 “Pit Stop” toilets for pubic use, but many are closed by the late afternoon. The Poop Patrol was formed after San Francisco Mayor London Breed began touring city sidewalks in response to complaints about feces.

Mayor Breed said (from a different article) that the city's "cleanliness has been impacted by human waste on our streets....We have increased the number of public restrooms and added street cleaners, but now we have a dedicated team to tackle this poop problem."

What a great solution! Way easier than, say, housing the people who are #ting in the streets.... or at least providing them with porta-johns or something. Hooray for america! Maybe we can import someone from India who is well versed in sh**-cleaning, like the woman in this video:

Meanwhile in California... rampant tent cities and homelessness. It's turning into Little India here folks. Can we stop worrying so much about whether or not people are using politically correct language or are culturally appropriating and do something about the lack of quality mental health care for the people who need it most in this country?

It seems as if that old saying "Go West young man " just aint looking as attractive as it used too. I mean there's liberal loaves laying all over the sidewalk. They used to say that if three men were standing together on the side walk in San Francisco, that one of them was gay.....now it's two of them are standing in crap from the third guy. The pictures in your op, are showing how well socialism works.

No, it's showing how well our Federal Republic and Capitalism is working. Last time I checked, America wasn't yet a socialist country.

Cannot fox the homeless issue for political/economics reasons

If this is liberalism at its finest in America. That’s a fair arguement, Don’t really know a more leftist area. Then can the liberal politicians really admit, things aren’t working? Do the liberal middle and upper class, as much as they say they like liberal programs, really want to be taxed at a higher rate for the governement can fix things.

So the do liberal window dressing, plastic straws are a no go, plastic syringes will still be free.

That's even funnier.

They're just gonna wash the snip out in to the ocean.

Quick someone call the church of climatology!

It's an ecological DISASTER in the making!

Other than the problems caused by lack of facilities, those living in the tent cities are living a whole lot greener than most of the rest of us.

Well, that's interesting, isn't it?

It now seems that San Francisco has progressed from being a figurative s***hole, to being a LITERAL one.

I suppose it was inevitable, but for some reason, it makes me sad.

Especially considering how beautiful and culturally diverse she once was.

One out of two ain't bad, I suppose.

In retrospect, I would like to believe this would be considered a cautionary tale, and a very teachable moment, but that's being overly optimistic.

Yada, yada, yada. Why the hate for ole San Fran? Might be....

A local expert described San Francisco as "the heart of the bohemian lifestyle, the epicenter of the LGBT rights movement, and the launching point of the technology era." In the last decade, thousands of tech companies have raced to set up shop in the Bay Area, sending the cost of living through the roof. But despite all the focus on the tech and startup scene, the city also has plenty of business jobs available with more than 30 international finance headquarters.

Despite the partisan dislike for SF it still comes in at 20 in the 50 best places in America to live in.

For the record #1 was Austin, Texas.

You contradict yourself. You point to capitalism as being the problem, but then go on to state this is not a socialist state.

In any case, what would YOU propose as the solution? Specifically, what are YOU willing to go without in order to pay for all this housing and care?

Hey, I've got an idea!

Why not make all the people S#ing in the streets clean up all that, all their OWN S#???

Wow, what a novel concept huh? If you can S# on the street, you can damn sure clean it up too!

No hate, just disappointment. They're just perpetuating a problem.

My solution would be for these (and all) people to receive quality mental health care. Plain and simple.

Yea, shatting on the side walk don't really help anyone ...does it? San Fran most liberal area in the country...…..In my opinion....this is SOCIALISM at it's finest. It' what the liberal SJW of San Fran want. So if you want it then live with the shat on the sidewalk. Or spend that cash on social programs to help these people out. Or just do nothing and think the problem's gonna go away......Doing nothing aint working folks.

The money they are going to spend on power washers, water, and manpower indefinitely washing feces off the streets would be better spent helping the people who are crapping there.

The drug fueled homeless life style doesn't seems to be working out all that well. People having to pick up after them like a pet. People wonder why some towns create rules.

Do you know how much those items will cost compared to offering "quality" mental health care?? Something tells me that it would be cheaper in the long run to hire some people to clean the streets than to put in the time and effort into "fixing" the mental health of the homeless, especially because many are homeless for different reasons.

My wife and I have actually volunteered at the homeless shelter around here a few times, and even though it's a small town, we have a lot of homeless people. Some are homeless because they aren't capable of taking care of themselves and have no one to take care of them. Others are homeless by choice, either because they're alcoholics/drug abusers, too prideful to take advantage of programs to help them, or young/naive and don't feel like being a part of society. Some of them are there for one simple reason......# happens.

My point being is that "quality" mental health would not be cheap in the long run. I know hiring people to clean the streets isn't the best solution, but raising taxes on everyone so people can have "quality" mental health care isn't going to help, either. I'm currently the only one working and I have to take care of my wife, my 2 dogs and myself. If my taxes were raised for mental health care, then there's a good chance I wouldn't be able to make it anymore. At least I'd have mental health care, though, right??
