The issue I have with all this is you can create a situation where the "bait" is so damn easy and nice that you might just get a lot of people taking it. To the point the whole damn neighborhood is in jail...lol

Is that the goal here. When we look at crime all is not equal in the mind set and effort involved. They say locks are to keep honest people honest, and there is a big difference in stealing a car and even a bike compared to a nice pair of shoes sitting there just looking at you. Kind of like someone walks by your house and sees a pair of shoes and takes them, compared to breaking into your house and taking them from your closet...

I know some are going to say a crime is a crime and stealing is stealing, but IMHO there are degrees to it all.

I'm going to go as far as to say it preys on the low IQ too.. Same as with majority of "bait" if they are not done where a person needs to actually put a good deal of intent into it all.

Are you like painfully unaware that they do this all over the country? There is/was literally a show called BaitCar following these jobs where the viewer gets to laugh at the jackasses once they find themselves locked in a stolen car with the engine cut.

Like several seasons too lol. Im all for discussing whether this is right or wrong or ethical yada yada but it seems like you think this was an isolated event?

Honestly im generally a # the police kind of guy, but I think they mainly do this is neighborhoods with obsene auto theft rates. People who steal cars are scumbags imo as it can destroy a family and I actually support nipping it in the bud if possible. Its a serious problem locally, and they dont do Bait cars here as far as im aware.

Then again, we also have a miniscule black population locally so maybe there is more to read into that.

If they did this with fancy cars and simply tracked the GPS for awhile, they might be able to actually find some chop shops and higher ups. I dont think they can though because generally a stolen car is used to commit armed robbery or attempted murder and then ditched.

Are you not intelligent enough to think just a little bit before you make such a dim witted statement? “We’ll never know because they’ll only do this in ghettos where they don’t live and are totally detached from.” I would be willing to bet that they reason they did this in their chosen location is due to the crimes that have been committed there recently... not because of racism like you are implying. There probably isn’t a problem with vagrants stealing out of vehicles in the neighborhoods where you are suggesting baiting people with fancy tech devices. An 8 year old could figure these things out. But hey, when all else fails play the race card. If you have a problem with the cops rounding up criminals because they are black and poor then just be honest and say that.

I’m aware of bait car where they go to the poorest neighborhoods in the city and embarrass the undesirables, They don’t usually put trucks full of brand new Nikes next to where people are playing basketball though. It’s possible that they’re creating criminals

So you’re saying that these people who got arrested were stealing from their own neighborhoods, Which is pretty stupid seeing as you might get shot and no one really has anything to steal not to mention the no snitching mentality, You’re saying that the cops got so many calls from that community about people having valuables and possessions stolen from all their cars, That they got fed up, And set up a sting to get these criminals off the street once and for all when they go up the street to play basketball?

Really, like really, i don't know how you find the time to post here while your busy out kicking puppies and strangling kittens.

Children, they are going after guns - people who would so brazenly rob a vehicle in broad daylight have a much higher chance of being illegally armed - stealing tennis shoes is a misdemeanor, that's not why they do stings to rack up community service.

They would much rather stop and frisk I am sure, but the optics in a black community isn't great.

Yes they do these stings all the time, everywhere. We have been trying to tell you that for 20 pages. This same thing has been done across the country for many years.

This is not creating a criminal. An honest person would not take the bait. We have been telling you this for 20 pages.

You have implied that you were not raised the same as others, etc, and this is somehow an excuse for having a different point of view. Perhaps you can learn from others in this thread. Think about it. Reevaluate what you know as right and wrong. It will make your life better.

Exactly! I stated that same thing a few pages ago.

This may be a neighborhood with serious gang activity. By bringing them in for other charges, they have an opportunity to see if they possess drugs or weapons. These might also be gang members with prior records or outstanding warrants.
