I am somewhat a cynic when it comes to life after death and there being something beyond the point a which we die. I am also cynical about re-incarnation. I have always seen the Brain and the Mind as one thing but is it possible they are not and when the Brain is in trouble (in the throws of dying - shutting down) something else compensates/takes over etc (the Mind)? Or is there a part of the Brain that is dormant until the point of death that kicks in with incredible capability. Many have questioned the size of our Brains and what hidden capabilities it may have and what answers it may provide should we be able to tap into it.

I do believe that there is so much we do not know about the Brain/Mind and the capabilities they may hide!

However, my thoughts are open to possibilities regardless of my cynicism and particular so after watching this video. Surprisingly moderated by John Cleese.

www.youtube.com...

Atser's can draw there own conclusions and may have there own stories which are similar to those referred to in the video.

"What is real? How do you define 'real'? If you're talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then 'real' is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain." -'Morpheus' from 'The Matrix' film.

I know it's just a movie, but a good point nevertheless.

Since the brain ceases to function after death or dramatic injury or illness, when the lights go out, no more electrical signals, hence no more sensory input.

After that, its anyone's guess.

This is the ultimate question that nobody knows, guess or have faith. Have you already died and just reset? Is that why we have our intuition because its happened before, or does our subconscious already know and warns you OR is it a guardian angel of some kind? Even if there is an after life who says we get those answers after we die? But to be fair IF everybody knew the answer then a lot of people would probably kill them selves unless religion is real then what? We are not meant to know, but god does tell us what waits for us depending on the path we choose. You wont find an answer here and you may not find an answer if you killed yourself, you may just reset until you get it right, god and the universe are infinite.

Although I am remain skeptical I am open to possibilities but I do not believe this has anything to do with what you call a GOD!

"Death is the release from all pain and complete cessation, beyond which our suffering will not extend. It will return us to that condition of tranquility, which we had enjoyed before we were born. Should anyone mourn the deceased, then he must also mourn the unborn." - Seneca

Close your eyes and try to imagine 'nothing'... If the image that comes to mind is that of black empty space, that's not 'nothing'... that's black empty space.

It is no mistake by nature that we are incapable of comprehending unconsciousness. Death is simply the return to the sate of prebirth. And while non-existence may be considered 'hell' to those who wish to live forever, it is a welcoming heaven to those who have toiled and suffered troubled lives.

It is a interesting subject. Maybe it is the unconscious side of your brain you are talking about, it seems to be in control when you dream too so i think it will also be in control during the transition to the death state.

So what do you think will happen once that moment arrives?

From experience it has been clear there are so many possibilities of what might happen that the one thing you can be sure of is that nobody really knows and we are just guessing. Even the stories of people dying and miraculously coming back are hard to fathom.

Myself i'm sure we do depart our bodies and leave here, we go to a place where there is no time and you process your experience and either come back here in 5 or 500 earth years, hypnotherapy/hypnosis has proven we are able to tell a lot about our previous lives, believing that for a moment it would mean our experiences are shared with a collective and somehow accessible in the right conditions(and still personal too as we can't seem to access other lives but our own usually), i find this fascinating. It raises all sorts of new questions. Why are we only returning here on earth, why not on other planets, does distance matter? Where is this information stored and for what purpose? Have read many stories about peoples past lives but none where they where part of a advanced insect race if you know what i mean.

Nope, nothing ,nada. If there is we have no way of ever finding it out. Or no way of telling those living that it exist and is real. So therefore no there's no after life that we the living can ever find. It can only be answered upon death.

I don't think it is quite fair to say nobody knows. Some people Do know. Many people remember their past lives, some in outsanding detail. Other people (tens of thousands) have had near death experiences, and know beyond any doubt that life continues after death.

I do understand that for "most" people, they won't know for sure until after death, but some people nonetheless DO know.

Kind of like the question "Does intelligent life exist beyond humans". Most people might not know the answer, but some have been blessed with the experiences of communication with various intelligences, and thus they know the truth behind the question.

Nobody knows, your physical mind is not with you to record what happens when you are spiritually away from your body, it's not our job to know. Honestly I think sleeping is the same as dying, I honestly think we do this to keep a spiritual bond to our physical self, we are meant to forget dreams, sometimes we remember, but sometimes I believe our soul goes else where to reconnect. But our physical body does not record those memories. You ever see the study on those men that stayed awake for a couple weeks? Very denomic like, if you dont sleep you will die. Anyway, I do believe in a god, a year ago my how view on reality was waaaay different, I viewed death, aliens, religion, everything was waaaay different. But something changed, I know why but that's my personal belief. But I dont believe anybody really knows. If we did then you wouldn't be asking...

I lean to the side of no life after death as I have seen no conclusive (or even good) evidence to suggest that the mind continues on after your body expires.

On one hand, the concept of a sort of immortal ghost within us is something I have trouble wrapping my head around, along with it being generally unnecessary for life.

On the other hand...I've seen some s--t..Stuff that has confused me and forced me to acknowledge that maybe I don't have all the answers and the universe really is "weird"...ghost story type stuff.

So, I'll go down as open to the idea based on my personal...encounters? experiences?...Things that have firmly left me with a sort of difficult state of not being able to smugly dismiss the notion without lying to myself as to my own experiences.

If I take my experiences at face value, then it seems indeed we are in the matrix and death is just an awakening...more like we are in a sort of really fantastic VR we chose to come into in order to...I don't know...maybe experience a struggle that our real forms don't really have the opportunity for. I guess its like us playing a medieval video game. We do it to sort of feel what it is like being in a far more basic and aggressive time.

Within the last year I've had a few experiences with lucid dreaming for the first time in my life. They were pretty freaky when they happened. The first time I "woke up" and thought I saw my dad standing in the side room I have for my dog to sleep trying to warn me about something. The next time I "woke up" and thought there was a dark figure (woman?) standing over me and reaching down.

Here's the thing. While the events left me rather shaken for the rest of the night, neither event really shook my opinion on after life (or in this case ghosts). My dad isn't dead and the first dream wasn't trying to warn me about some future event cause I saw my dad later that week and nothing was wrong. The second one I just shook off as a lucid dream and I haven't experienced one since.

All I know is that your mind creates a weird version of reality when you are asleep and the experience of your mind locking down your limbs for REM sleep but you are lucid is surreal and frightening. Though none of it has shaken my skepticism.

If life after death was reality, then there would be no way for the living to comprehend it because any sane mind wouldn't not be able to make sense of it. It would be like the colour spectrum having more colors that we can pick up, when we are only built to see seven.

I like the arguments that can be brought up on the possibility or the impossibility of it. Like where do new souls come from if they haven't started at level 1, or when you die an cross over, nothing peculiar of that individuality will remain, and yet idrast of karma carving such paths have any little or much affect at all.

The universe is so acute an vast, maybe it those instants and transitions of life and death is where they and the mysteries of life itself hides...in plain sight.

Emphasis on no time like the present.

Hope all contributors watched the whole vid!!!!! For those who didn't you should and then revert back to the thread!

I found it fascinating and the research possibilities interesting.

Maybe we are making some small ground as to what the hell its all about.

Near-Death Experiences says a lot about that.

This is still an esoteric subject so you won't be reading this on the MSM very often, but anyone can research it on the internet and books, there's TON of information, including actual scientific researches about the psychological behavior of those who died and returned to life.

So yes, there's "something" after death.

We just don't know what it is.

Incorrect.

Many people have died and came back with amazing stories and I am one of them.

We already know what happens to us after death. There is rigor mortis, putrefaction, bloating, and decomposition.
