I have seen often the opinion that the concept of sex addiction as being simply an excuse for cheating husbands... I once thought it was too. Didn't look any further to find out about it.

Then when my husband announced tearfully to me that he was, I was horrible in response. Did not understand.
We had to spend weeks in heart wrenching conversation then go see a sexologist, then spend months trying to cope with it, then I spent two weeks talking daily with a therapist that deals with this.

It is a real addiction, in the order of behavioral addictions like gambling. It has some strong obsessive-compulsive aspects, as well as intimacy disorders. There are some really sad cases out there. These are not happy people just having fun exploring their sexuality. They lose their families, their homes, their jobs, their health, sometimes end up in prison. Even while they are fighting to stop.

It is incredibly hard to recover, especially in a permanent way. One of the biggest hurdles is the intimacy disorder part - people who have extreme difficulty being intimate with others find a sort of illusional temporary experience of bonding with others in the act. But to recover, you really need some therapeutic help - a professional, a group... which entails opening up to others emotionally - the exact thing they flee from with terror (while also desiring deep down at the same time).

This is really a terrible addiction, partly because of the taboo factor - if you say you are alcoholic, people will be supportive of your efforts. But with sex, everyone either takes it personally (their mate) or is distainful.

Porn addiction is a huge problem right now, and it can escalate into sex addiction. Or they can become unable to ever have sex with a real person (which happens to young men if the addiction starts before they have much intercourse and have carved out a pathway in the brain for that). My husbands started out with porn addiction and a job that meant many nights alone in a hotel room. Then needing more and more visual stimulation for the same dopamine "high".

I hope I have not already gone over the line on what is allowed on this site - if I have I apologize to the staff!

Sex addiction IS a mental-health disorder, declares World Health Organization and treatment

all sorts of addiction have been classified as a mental disorder for quite some time now.

"Known as compulsive sexual behaviour disorder, it is defined as an inability to control intense sexual urges leading to people neglecting their health despite often deriving no pleasure from being intimate, according to a report issued by the WHO."

and you think this is OK to abuse your body until it becomes unhealthy?

Can child molesters claim mental illness now? The inability to control intense sexual urges..

Pedophilia is treated already as a mental issue and is separate from this disorder.

I'm not sure how this fits into the big picture but it seems that this is heading in the direction of justifying any sexual conduct as a mental disease.

How so?

Its just like also adding video gaming disorder recently,

All the disorders are basically the same addictive disorders, in the past a person addicted to video games or sex would have been treated this way or that way,

due to a growing population and the numbers of these particular addiction disorders growing rapidly researchers have developed specific treatment so the disorders have be separated from other addiction disorders so when one is diagnosed the right treatments with the highest chance of recovery is used instead of playing trial and error.

No,

I cant see anything wrong with my rough knowledge of the Ts and Cs with the very informative post you shared.

Its was a personal post but the statements are very true that sex addiction is a real issue and also how you pointed out porn addiction as the two are very related and porn addiction like you say for young men can turn into a real issue that allows for many others to spawn later on in the young mans life.

I would say your post was quiet appropriate since you are talking about personal experience.

I don't think I posted a conclusion or an opinion on the topic.
I only voiced a concern based on how some things get taken to far.

Hasn't sex addiction been treated as such for some time now? Therapy sessions and counselling are available already. Is this just to say it has now been made official?

Of course its a disorder.. wonder how long till the wonder pill appears to treat it, that will only give you 6 side effects that each require a different medication to treat.

It's been here a long time. Depo Prevara shot. Our hypersexual patients get it.

Yes. They can and it's true in most cases. The problem is thinking that because it's a mental illness problem that we have to accept it. We don't. They still need to die, out of love and not hate.

The lesson I take away from the finding that sex addiction can be a mental disorder is that that potential is there as you point out when you mention those neural, brain pathways that are carved into a persons head. It's not the booze but rather not learning to hold it to non-destructive levels. Same with other ''addictive'' actions, sex included. Total immersion in anything can be destructive. By pointing out that sex can be addictive lets us know the potentials.
Thank you for turning this thread into one of substance.

So, the treatment for sex addition would be what....Sex? Now the medical trade will be prescribing sex to ween people off of sex? Of course a Pharma company can be the only one supplying this service, and you will need a doctors prescription every month to actually have the insurance pay for it.

Thats easy. Gives an out to the celebrity predators that are being exposed. No crime just a disease - will be the new mantra. No criminal charges just treatment. Normalization.

Wait, so are you born that way, or is it a mental disorder?

or do you just pick and choose which ones are which based on your political party?

Yes, I am confused with that too, or is it both a physical and mental dysfunction - or is there more to it?

Ingest the 'wrong' 'chemical' and anybody can become a sex addict for perhaps a few days = MENTAL DISORDER.

A couple that are really REALLY into each other have sex 8 times per day = MENTAL DISORDER.

Teenager gets a hold of porn for the first time = MENTAL DISORDER.

Walk into a brothel with a jackass and a honeycomb....

Electroschock to the toes and fingertips, while being forced to watch Hillary Clinton campaign videos and being kicked in the balls every 32 seconds.

ETA And to the poster above me:
