Yeah, except the defense of what he said came after the Obama story: it is not a threat. Its just mischaracterization of what he said for the sake of throwing more fits.

The Obama bit was to put the public chastising into context with precedence.

Im happy to admit my ignorance here...can you provide me some examples of how a president, acting alone, created taxes for a single company within a larger industry?

His words not mine... He is the President of the United States. Does his word not have merit now? Can we not take him for his word?

Seriously? Can we not take the President of the United States at his word? That is a one answer question

I take him at his word, not at Southern Guardian's interpretation of that word, which is what you're calling for here.

They also will run into the adminsitration's newly minted import tariffs, which they can't survive.

Why? Are there tariffs on motorcycles now, or will that one be made just for Harley?

In any case, the company will be moving the manufacture of bikes for the European market out of the country. That does not mean they will be importing those bikes to the US. Either Trump is weak on the concept or he really does think he can raise taxes on a target company.

Harley going to Europe?

Probably not. But they do want to continue to sell motorcycles there.

I guess Trump is oblivious to reality. Are Harley bikes made in the U.S.? Well.. no, they are assembled in the U.S. - the majority of the parts are made in other countries and sent to the U.S. where the bike is assembled. That's not exactly "made in the U.S.A." Parts come from China, Germany, Italy.. other countries and ironically, from Mexico.

Trump is nuts if he thinks U.S. based companies can all suddenly shift their supply chain from current sources to U.S. sources. Is that what he wants? Tariffs are going to hurt the companies that import parts from other countries. Which is to say.. a great many of them.

Until regulation of workers can occur in all countries, this is a pipe dream. It's impossible for American companies to compete with near slave-labor rates in other countries. The alternative is build it all local.. as much higher prices.. and then you the citizen, gets to happily pay a whole bunch more for all the goods you use.

It's a huge problem, and slapping a bunch of tariffs down against other countries isn't the magical cure.

Harleys are overpriced, image-centric bikes anyway.

Right on, so now we're going to smear any American company that starts losing money because of failed policy?

So Harley Davidson is bad. Got it.

Chevy is bad, right? Because they're going to Mexico.

Can we call any American companies good right now, so we know they're good later, when they become affected?

Who's the next evil company? Ford? Budweiser? What if Budweiser says they're gonna start canning all their aluminum elsewhere?

Smearing?
Now?

Harleys have been overrated for a long time and I’ve been talking # on them since I’ve been riding.

What they’re doing now has zero bearing on my opinion of them, don’t act like a victim for them.

Budweiser is piss water and I’ve never really cared for Chevy.
Fords alright, I liked that Shelby mustang they did a few years back.

Harley Davidson is obviously lying and misrepresenting what Trump has done with the new tax policy to put it in a bad light, and give themselves all the excuses and shielding they need to make their exporting jobs away from the USA appear to have no other choice, and this so it harms Trump, and disparages his recent policies.

Meanwhile, all the other big manufacturers recalled their overseas operations back to America BECAUSE of Trump's policies and gave their employees bonuses and raises.

Pretty simple what this is, and the only people denying it are, ..Well- just in denial.

No. They aren't lying. The EU increased the tariff on US made motorcycles which will cause them to cost $2,000 more in Europe. So, in order to avoid that tariff, Harley Davidson will manufacture motorcycles for that market outside of the US. It makes sense.

All of them?

Yes they were lying, enough to use it as a tool to disparage Trump's policies. They may have a unique situation with their established vendors and other reasons, but they used their particular situation to gain political payment which the MSM was quite happy to assist them with. Your other points are irrelevant and trivial as usual..

Yes they were lying,
No. Due to EU tariffs the price of US made motorcycles sold in Europe will be $2,000 higher. It's simple math.

HD announced plans to shut down their KC plant months ago. People were bitching then about how they were moving those jobs to Thailand.

Now HD wants to blame the Tariffs. You guys are being manipulated to feel outrage it is so pathetic..

Except this move isn't to cheap labor Thailand - it is to expensive labor Germany.

Is this legal? Is this constitutional? For a president to make a threat like this to an American business?

President Donald Trump denied Tuesday that his trade policy is to blame for Harley-Davidson’s decision to shift some motorcycle production overseas, saying on Twitter that the company is using “Tariffs/Trade War as an excuse” to hide previously announced plans to move jobs to Asia.

The Milwaukee-based company said Monday it came to its decision because of retaliatory tariffs it faces in an escalating trade dispute between the U.S. and the European Union.

Trump warned Harley-Davidson that any shift in production “will be the beginning of the end.”

www.centralmaine.com...

The tweet:

Maybe this is part of his marvellous economic plan... shame and threaten individual companies that make business decisions as the result of his economic policies? I wonder how this will sit with the Corporate Republicans and Democrats? It's a first I'll give ya that. Of course Trump has no leg to stand on when making that kind of threat, it's all political posturing at the end... without accountability.
Yah I wonder if it's legal/constitutional for a President to threaten the entire coal industry and tell Americans he's going to skyrocket their energy bill.. but I guess that's just so 2009

Interesting.

Trump is comparable to Obama.

Never thought I would see that become a "thing", but I suppose if it's true...it's true.

Donald Trump is a bully. That's his negotiation style. If Donald punishes every corporation for going outside our borders to bolster it's bottom line then he will be punishing literally nearly every large American corporation. They sent jobs away long ago, and continue to do so when possible. Good luck bringing the jobs back, Donald. And, don't worry, the world will be fact-checking all your superlatives and claims. Why? Because you blatantly lie every day of your life, publicly anyhow. I don't know what you do privately; but most people are worse behind closed doors.

We need a deescalation strategy.

Then you have a problem..Trump is tactical, but hasn't a clue on being strategic.
