However, this also the latest in a series of incidents in which a child trying to make some summer money was shut down for not having an expensive city permit too.
Doesn't appear as though she was shutdown over a permit. Someone saying permit doesn't mean that is what happened.

So you;re happy to drive a car that hasnt come out of a factory line but produced by someone in their back yards and hasn't had quality control checks and being passed off as new?

Yeah and your $ 5 magical tester that you mentioned above will let you peer into the back kitchens of restaurants and see who's breeding cockroaches. You should just give it a rest. Save it for when some real critical thinking is needed in the future.

Nestle have insurance and permits - if the kid poisons your family you'll just say "oh well"
If i could then i would use rational to decide on what purchase to make. If a car company makes crap then people will not buy it.
if you want gov. sponsored food poisoning then just pick out the restaurant that is not busy during rush hour...

That's not quite true.
I've seen plenty of very, very busy restaurants that had issues. I knew of one Mexican place in particular that was awesome and always busy that had mice. Occasionally one would run across the floor of the dining area while customers were there. I can only assume no one noticed.
Mixed feelings about this
Who's property was the selling conducted on
A permit allows for some comeback should the water be tainted - you can trace who sold what where
Yeah there are some rules that seem overkill but there are valid reasons.
To those that suggest that it teaches kids hard work and life lessons - dont forget that proper business practice ie permits are also a part of "life lessons"
