On the other hand, the actual opportunity for peace is actually at hand. In this case peace through strength. It isn't unprecedented, at all.

While I see validity to your media dominated election process, but what alternative is there? We no longer live in an environment where we personally know the nominated individual as back in the day. We have no other means of gathering information.

So rather than lumping everyone into an addicted class of individuals lapping up the pap, I pose to you that there's never been a more aware, informed/misinformed voting populace than now. Ever.

I, for one, see the meltdown of the professional politician class as beyond a positive. A 'high water mark' in U.S. history. An unprecedented opportunity, as well as unprecedented risk.

I am grateful for it.

I don't disagree with you about the population in general being more informed and having greater access to information than previous generations. It's factually accurate.

The political classes deserve to be taken down from their pedestals. At the same time, I believe we have political classes because they are a necessity. In that sense, they have a function, but it's critical that they respect their fellow citizens and work for their benefit over partisan bull# or self-interest. That is rarely the case and it needs to become cultural in their world rather than the exception.

If we head in that direction even just in America not to mention globally, what is coming would make the 1930's look like a church social.

And on that cheery note ...

Thank you for sharing your nightmare. Just what we needed. A little 'pick me up' going into the weekend.

society is dumber than ever, just read journals and letters from people during WW2 as evidence

also if you reading the federalist papers and writtings and discussions from the founding fathers their level of intelligence is unrecognizable to todays leaders

That wasn't what we were saying.

We could argue that society is 'more aware', informed/misinformed' whilst still being 'dumber than ever.' They're not exclusive.

God knows I look around some days and 'dumber' seems to be contagious.

Maybe I don't quite "get" your Indian analogy. Other than that, I 100% agree with all that you said.

I don't see the truth as disparaging our past like these people do that wish to destroy statues. I am proud of our past. We likely could not have settled this country the way we did otherwise. It got us where we are today.

And Americans have felt this way during our entire history.

Working backwards, the most recent would be the Reagan era, obviously. It followed a low-point for a multitude of reasons from economic to Vietnam and the Iranian hostage fiasco. The result? No German-like fascism developed. Likewise with the Bombing of Hawaii and that sneak attack. A return to the normal placid culture followed WWII.

Actually, the Military Industrial Complex emerged and the US became the preeminent perpetual war monstrosity. (Although that's about war devil corporatists / imperialist power mongers, not mere nationalism [love of ones nation]).

Thank you come again.

A fun aside, the people screaming about national = Hitler also storm troopers down the streets beating people up if they can for GLOBALISM. Which is the same damn sort of thing (like Christian's vs Muslims, or Democrat's vs Republican's, or NY Giant's vs NY Jets). Go football team my city state can beat up your city state!
