It boils down to it doesn't affect me so it's none of my business. Simple.
Aren't we all "forced to accept" the identities of others on a daily basis?
And since when is science the highest concern in dealing with other people?
If I hear what you're saying, your issues with other people's identities are political?
At age 52, I'm finally learning not to let other people bother me that much, LOL. Since you ask my personal opinion though, I have a much bigger issue with folks letting their religious beliefs (also not in line with most science) govern their politics and thereby legislation, regulation, jurisprudience, etc.
I guess my thing is I must not understand the forced to accept thing. If a person you will never meet does a thing that has no bearing on your life how are you forced to accept it?
Religious beliefs don't question scientific reality???
Sorry, I thought my response to your question was implied -- no, I have no issue with "otherkin" identifying as real animals, imaginary animals (dragons, etc.), etc. I'm not sure about your issue with "shunning" ... if someone asks my opinion on something, and I give it to them, and they then "shun" me ... my only response for 99.9% of the people would be "Next!"

Yes to SOME extent but not to the point it questions reality.
My response about religious belief and science is related to this comment:

As to your question about parsing between physical reality and identity ... I can't provide a simple answer to your question.

yeah, for the most part the only shunning that happens is from people I wasn't interested in talking to anyway.
The only way to regain freedom to express yourself is to quit worrying what other people think.
