Gina Haspel confirmed as CIA director, first woman to lead agency

Trump has once again championed women’s rights by nominating Gina Haspel to be our next CIA Director. She was just confirmed by the Senate as the first ever female director of the CIA.

This is yet another example of the high number of female nominees the Trump Administration has made. Despite the false narrative to the contrary, Trump has always been willing to put strong women in leadership positions.

Gina Haspel is an outstandingly qualified individual and was confirmed with bi-partisan support. My hope is she will clean up the mess in the intelligence community left by the last administration.

Gina Haspel was confirmed Thursday as CIA director, becoming the first woman to lead the agency and overcoming initial Democratic opposition regarding her role in post-9/11 interrogation and detention practices.

The Senate voted 54-45 to confirm President Trump's nominee, with six Democrats supporting and two Republicans defecting. Haspel, whose nomination was endorsed by the Senate Intelligence Committee a day earlier, previously was deputy director and has spent her career with the agency.

Haspel earned emphatic support from GOP lawmakers as well as intelligence community members from both Democratic and Republican administrations.

Marine Corps Col. Lorna Mahlock has been nominated to serve as the first black female brigadier general, the Marine Corps media office said. Mahlock was nominated by President Donald Trump, and Defense Secretary James Mattis announced the nomination on Tuesday. According to his announcement, Mahlock is currently the deputy director of the Operations, Plans, Policies, and Operations Directorate at the Marine Corps headquarters in Washington. Her nomination was one of several by the President that Mattis announced Tuesday.

Personally I have no issue with it if it saves lives of innocents.

I don't give a flying flip what race, sex or sexual preference the head of the CIA is, but if they can't give a clear answer to the question of if torture is immoral, they deserve to be thrown in the Potomac with weights around their ankles.

I'd guarantee we have saved more lives by torturing known terrorists and killers than giving them hugs!
