That doesn't mean the US won't carry out its strikes. Remember the US is opposed the Syrian government and sees the Syrian government Illegitimate and is backing the rebels.

I hope this does mean a de-escalation of sorts and the US reconsiders a more diplomatic approach right now that's not happening. The UK war cabinet will most likely agree on a military strike in Syria possibly today and the UK could be the first in considering Akrotiri base is ready to go within hours.

It takes ground offensive to do anything meaningful. Sure, airstrikes can damage some cement, but unless they use MOAB, it won't be anything significant. I follow the Syria war. Airstrikes don't do much.

Precisely, the US won't do much they'll do the same as they did this time last year and shell a few empty airfields and put out some very strongly worded sentences. It'll be seen as another provocation by Syria and Russia they'll blow off some more hot air and then it'll be the same again this time next year.

Nope. Russia didn't drop a chlorine canister from a helicopter. Russian personnel won't moving after Trump tells them to move.

There is no cannister and no video in the Vanessa Beeley tweet I linked to.

I am amused at the video that claims it is footage of emergency hair & head washes of the civilians with poison gas contamination...

if there were any barrel-bombs in the area.... the remaining Jihadists/anti-Assad rebels most likely planted the device to look as if it was dropped from an Assad-forces helicopter
(why no speculation that the Turks dropped a gas laden bomb ?... as they were the ones attacking that Syrian enclave for a month now)

Trump has been vocal & absurd lately...I think his missile threats will be just hot-air as the USA is fidgety to find out if the Putin boasts of hypersonic weapons that kills aircraft-carriers is true or that the S400 can destroy +80 some cruise missiles aimed at Syria at the same time with next-generation sensors...
...so that the tactic of overwhelming the skies with drones is not a option for the USA missiles

Does anyone else find it highly coincidental that Trump would publicly state he wanted America to pull out of Syria, and almost immediately, Assad decided this was the perfect time to gas his people? Ironically, the last time America questioned its involvement in Syria, Assad decided to gas his people then as well. That makes Assad a moron. Or, more likely, some faction in America who is creating red flags to continue the escalation in Syria. What's a few dead civilians?

He asked Israel to "avoid destabilizing the situation in Syria". According to Putin the Israeli strike the other day made things in Syria worse, and he was asking them not to take action that would make things worse.
