To be fair, you lot in the states are pretty damn stupid too. You are a byword for stupidity worldwide, we are just doing what we can to stop you looking quite so bad so you should be thanking us.

What a sh1tty post. You've just insulted about 70% of the membership of ATS.

Couldn't agree more. The US is a fantastic country and I would love to live there. I have family in Texas and New York, and I really envy some aspects of the way if life.

To be fair though, many of these threads turn into ¥/#@ swinging contests, with Americans accusing people from Europe/UK of being some sort of beta cuck lesser being for having a different view on a gun culture. We tend to be derided for not having the view that guns = freedom. Some people can't fathom the idea that there are countries where people don't need to carry a weapon to feel safe.

Differences of opinion should be a matter for discussion, not derision.

I am thankful. Thankful me and every member of my family can pull their sidearm and stop some jackwad with a knife and come home safely. And the few select members of my family can stop some jackwad with with a semi automatic weapon with superior tactics and skill and ensure more than just our family can go home safely.

Enjoy your dependence on your government to protect you... I'm sure that's worked out so well in the past.

This really isn't news, and it just seems like it was posted as a talking point to bash Sadiq Khan and London as a whole... not that I'm surprised.

The funny thing is all the hate being spewed by UK non-Londoner posters. It's sick, frankly. I could say the same things about parts of Manchester, or Birmingham, or Liverpool, or Leeds, or I don't know... every other large-ish city?

I won't be back in the UK for a while, but building a wall around the M25 would suit most Londoners just fine

But seriously, this isn't news. They've been banned since I was in secondary school (I'm turning thirty in a few years). Growing up, we knew that it a real threat - I grew up in Shanktown, after all - but carrying a knife exponentially increased your odds of meeting said threat.

My city is going through a difficult time. Londoners home and abroad are unhappy about it, and have seen it coming for a long time. In the grand scheme of things, it's an age-old problem on a brand new scale. But all the hate being directed towards London is unnecessary. It's not even remotely useful. This is why generally stay out of arguments regarding crime in Chicago and other areas. These are real people who, by and large, actually take pride in their community despite their circumstances. You might scoff and have a post ready to discredit that, but bear in mind that throwing stones in glass houses isn't the best idea.

This posting was not to sling mud at anyone but ourselves, as humans. It's sad that it's coming to a point that even though say we enjoy things like knives, guns, sticks etc., that because of a few sick freaks in society, that our society has raised btw, has made them now classified as "Assault" weapons. There is no such thing for one. Nor can you even deem a gun or a knife as a "weapon" until it is used in that manner.

I for one enjoy shooting guns. All types, and it's sad that you can only shoot the really fun ones in certain states. I don't need a government babysitting every little thing I enjoy. It's not my fault that some nut case goes on a stabbing or shooting spree. Heaven forbid they ever start addressing the real issues in the human psych that clicks in these people. I remember watching a documentary several years back called "Going Postal". It broke down the mental reasons behind people shooting their bosses and coworkers etc. In short, it's the disconnect. We as humans need family, friends, and to be treated with dignity. When we're not, either we go into our dark room and eat mud and feel sorry for ourselves, or the other, which is building rage and taking it out in a physical form.

Now, with the internet, where everyone hides behind their keyboard and can say unimaginable things of hurt to others they have no clue about, the situation is only getting worse. Kids today judge their self-worth through "Clicks" such as likes, views and retweets. Think we have problems now? These kids are entering the workforce and are going to get a good hard dose of reality. A) That things are not fair B) There are no participation "at-a-boys" C) No one cares D) Life is hard

Honestly if I had to sum up where we are now, we've simply failed the human experiment. Now that we know and have a very clear track record of everything that does NOT work, either we are going to collectively embrace each other in a new positive loving manner, or a savior better arrive pretty soon.

Hey, really enjoyed reading your post and I agree with most! My first post here so wanted to preface with i'm really just being a (lame) devils advocate.

When does a baseball bat become a baseball bat? When it leaves the factory? When the batter picks it up before walking to the base? When it strikes the ball? When is it no longer a baseball bat? The minute the bat connects with the ball? When it's no longer in the batters hands? Or is it always a bat that is designed to strike a ball?

When does a gun become a weapon? When it comes out the factory? When the shooter loads his weapon? When he disengages the safety? When he pulls the trigger? When is it no longer a weapon? When the finger is no longer on the trigger? The safety is on? No bullets are in the gun? Or is it always a weapon designed to injure/hurt/kill/stop?

I also think the word 'assault' is, in a lot of ways a strange word to include. They are (only) weapons. Everything is, and can be a weapon. Somethings are weapons and utilities. Such as a knife. But a fully functioning, working gun is always a weapon, it's sole purpose is to shoot. It may be decorative and a work of art, it may have art on it. But it's a weapon. Same way a baseball bat is always a baseball bat and not a walking stick.
