Okay, so at first I thought this was just my uber conservative friends posting memes that were not factual, but then I googled and went to the Mayor of London Twitter feed and there it was. However, I'm still in disbelief and I'm posting it up here to see if I'm somehow taking this out of context? I mean I've checked a few other sources, including ATS, and can't seem to find anything that leads me to believe it's not true.

So, we all know that the US usually follows the EU trends, so this sure is a wake up call to say the least.

I'm headed to Amazon to pick up some "pre-ban" nail clippers. Gonna be a big future black market for those puppies.

Maybe after what happened in Indianapolis this weekend, some U.S. mayors will ban knives from being carried in public.

All cutlery will need to be ordered online I guess.

Humans are crafty little buggers. If the leaders are that damned afraid of civilians then let us hope they never realize that sticks can be shaped into daggers and that a little kindling with a single spark can burn down whatever.

The takes in here are amazing. It takes about 5 seconds and a search engine to find out that in the UK, it's illegal to carry a knife in public "without good reason" unless it's a folding knife with a blade 3 inches or less in length and the blade is non-locking.

That is where I have gotten a lot of my knives. But only full tang if I go there. My favorite knive I got from a pawn shop years ago. Smith & Wesson are the best knives IMO. And my Smith & Wesson throwing knives are also awesome and weighed perfectly and easy to throw.

So it is already illegal and people are still doing it? Pretty soon they will make martial arts illegal, because those judo chops can really cause some damage.

I read that he is also supporting stop and frisk, which he use to be against, if that report was true.

London violence: Mayor urges 'targeted' stop and search

The laws are the same here, anything in a car can be counted as an offensive weapon and you could be charged with "going equipped".

Fishermen can carry knives aslong as they are in a lockbox/tacklebox with other fishing gear.

Chefs can carry knives, aslong as they're in a backpack with a sleeve.

Survivalists can carry knives aslong as they're concealed and not tied to your belt buckle.. or whatever.. then you're fine.

Anything below 3 inches and non-locking is fine to carry around, or multi tools with knifes are fine if you're a tradesmen.

There is no need for more laws on this matter, it's handling the idiots who don't want to follow the laws.

Over here I know some kids who have carried knives to "Protect themselves", they normally keep them in their socks or whatever.. not like there's much knife crime here, but it seems to be the thing kids want to do to feel safe.

The times have changed, people are afraid of group assaults because arguments are never settled one on one anymore, people always call other people and it turns into a brawl, these kids feel like they need knives to maintain a competitive edge and it's very sad.

And because one carries a knife, many more carry knives in retaliation, same as guns, the criminals have guns, so Americans want guns to defend themselves to be on equal footing or to have that edge on an intruder.

Willingness to use these type of weapons unfortunately increases the likelihood of such a weapon being used on you, because any attacker that knows you are armed is going to attack you whilst armed.

Such a mental world we live in, I'm not one for gun control, forcing people to give up ways of defense is sad, and it's a shame people have to resort to these measures in the first place.

Just a little bit crazy. I never thought in a million years I'd see a statement like that from anyone, ever. I mean I get it, when your society is sick and getting sicker, you eventually will have to strip them of anything sharp, take away things like shoe laces, belts, etc. Wait, that's what they do in prison.

I'm finally starting to see where this is all going.

They are also spending public monies on "anti-knife violence education". As though the sort of people that enjoy stabbing people are going to be educated out of it by public speakers and conferences.

Also, to ensure your safety, they'll be expanding search and frisk of people "they believe " may be stabby. No worries there.

I’ve said it before I’ll say it again, violence is violence the medium used to inflict it doesn’t matter it will find a way.
No gun? Use a knife,no knife? Use a rock,no rock? Use your fists.

Whats new? England has had this mentality for a while. (Most)Governments dont care about individuals. A group of thugs kills an guy, meh, no big deal. The system will keep going, and the government will sent people to investigate it. That way people will have to rely on the government for protection. But, if you let people defend themselves, they wont need the government as much and that gives the government less power. Let people carry weapons to defend themselves and they might *gasp* CHALLENGE YOUR AUTHORITY!!! *clutches pearls and faints*

Carrying large knives has been banned for years. And rightly so. There's no need to wander the streets with a blade.

Many of us work with knives. I couldn't do my job without knives and we're always on the move, but if I took them for a walk in public, I'd expect trouble.

As far as I know, this is already the case. He was only giving a reminder.
(Otherwise, he would have said "ought to be". That's the clue)
