Shooting intruders who illegally cross the border is not in the same

Shooting illegal intruders crossing the border does not = Hitler.

Horacid is overreacting to the point of being delusional. This is not a sane way to deal with the problem. The borders need to be closed and people wanting to get in the country need to be vetted but I think mass murder might be a tad over the top.

That portion was already invoked in the thread. I posted the lesser know rest of Godwin's Law. But it doesn't matter anyway. Godwin's Law expired in 2005 and it's renewal wasn't adequately backed by the NRA, so while I initially supported it's extension... my hands are tied. Sorry.

As for alternate solutions:

1. Propaganda, let these poor dudes know that America is NOT fun to live in, that people are NOT rich, that everything is superfacial that they have an idiot as leader etc.

2. Discourage them through laws. Make people who have not been resident for X years pay more tax.

3. Exit @ crime policy. Whenever an illegal does something/anything wrong that would normally lead to a jail sentence of 0-10 years, kick them outta the country and let them sit in jail outside of america.
Make sure they do not come back after it.

Ah well, loads of other stuff I could think of, some more polite than others.

Why? I don't recall hitler talking about target illegal immigrants. He was anti-nongerman ethnicity, which can be broadly taken anti-immigration. But drhoracid is talking about, specifically, illegal immigrants, which one need not be evil nor racist to to be 'anti'. Also, he isn't talking about rounding them up and murdering them, but firing on anyone trying to illegally invade the country. Sure, we all know that the guys jumping the border aren't an invading army (at least the majority aren't), but whats the difference? Illegally invading the country can be responded to with deadly military force. Its not a gestapo tactic.

No its not, its stupid. If a person can't make a point but can only villify the 'opposition' then de facto they have no arguement and are just blathering. Refering to someone you disagree with as 'hitler' or a 'nazi' is simple villification, its like saying in a discussion about the relationship of homosexuality to morality and ethics 'well, why should anyone beleive you, you're a fag'. Its intended as an outright insult, not as a method of promoting discussion. True, godwin's law is perhaps a little extreme, and thats largely because of where it comes from, usenet, whcih is generally completely un-moderated. I mean, look at the insanity that gets thru here, and this is well moderated, of course something like godwin's law had to naturally result from usenet discussion, because the insanity there is ratcheted up to the nth degree. Its a way of boxing in and isolating the lunacy and allowing everyone to get past it and continue on with the discussion (not to say jakko is necesarily a loon or anything like that). In usenet its necessary, and I'd venture to say that its necessary here too. Weak arguements have to be pointed out, godwin's law is a useful and succinct 'cultural' way of doing so.

hardly. Illegals already risk death from the desert and the smuggler thugs that transport them. The apparently inept border patrol is going to be the last thing they are worried about. The border patrol can't find them crossing the border anyway, so how could they possibly find them, order them to stop or be fired upon, and then fire upon them? THe action is only acceptable as they cross the border and only if they don't comply with the border patrol's orders.

It's too bad his suicide attempt was unsuccessful.... Shooting on site is a little drastic...however, it would ensure they wouldn't return. Border patrol officers are and have been fighting a loosing battle...I feel for them.

Something has to change because it's not working. It's bad enough they come over and take jobs and spread diseases but when they commit crimes such as rape and murder....no!... americans do not have to accept that.
