For the same reason that we constantly talk about our missile defense systems, and how we can stop a North Korean missile, etc. It's mostly for public consumption. It gives some warning to potential opponents that they're serious about modernizing their military, but it's mostly for his own people. They can point to him and say that he's a strong leader, and he's doing a lot for their military, and making them strong again. They have their presidential election coming up on March 18th. This gives him a bump in popularity, and anyone he backs goes along with that.

Japan don't want ICBM's on their turf, I don't blame them. Other than that, WW3 is coming and if it isn't world war then it will be something far more horrific. My bets are on the latter.

I'm sorry, but I just don't buy it.

There is no profit in global nuclear war, no one to lord over, no "worker bees" to waste their lives away for a paycheck in order to service the debt required just to be alive in the first place, no one to build fancy toys they can never afford just so you can have them, nothing.

I'm not saying that there will never again be another nuclear detonation, but global war and devastation? The winning player in Monopoly almost never upends the board in frustration. I mean, their winning.

That's the name of the game, under the guise of "Protecting you" they end up in control of everything .The nearer the brink the tighter the control. Putin is telling the West in no uncertain words to back off, because he knows at this state of the Western economy, the whipping boy will be, and all the Rhetoric will be aimed at them for destabilizing the western economy, which will be seen as an act of war. At the moment we have lost a lot of freedoms, the mass media is no longer questioning, and the share market is being propped up by the Federal reserve. It could be getting dicey.

I won't even describe anything about the Russian weapons that were presented yesterday during Putin's speech. No commentary is needed, but ...

It looks clear to me that the US is not and will not be able to start any war against North Korea, Syria or Iran!
That said, the EU is still attempting to drag the US into many wars in the African continent. Recent developments in South Africa indicate that the British, Dutch and other EU madmen are preparing for the invasion of Africa and their intent is not just colonial rule over Africa, but also making sure that the US is stuck in more quagmire situations.

Now! Will Mattis, Kelly and all the rest of them realize that this is the EU's plot, and that there's no Russian plot ongoing ?
Will they remove the sunglasses at night time and the bananas from their ears ?

Or, is the plan to stand still, abolish the second amendment and become the 29th state the EU ?

And not to be mistaken, the EU itself is something absurd that as it stands at the moment has no future.
It's just a collection of Spies and Saboteurs, whose only purpose is to manufacture elections as the eurogarchy wants.

Well you would say that because you have no idea about global strategies. You can't just block a global super power into a corner and expect them to roll over.

I can't deny that I have no idea about global strategies. I kinda figured you wouldn't be able to back a super power into a corner, they wouldn't be called a super power long if you could

Russia’s current mainstay strategic missile fleet is already capable of bypassing interception from American interceptors. They are designed to do so. For example, Topol and Topol-M.

Russia has already been upgrading this fleet with a newer generation for years that is even more capable. For example, Yars.

What Russia just announced is that it has developed, tested, and deployed several new missile designs that are yet another generation forward. If people would bother to actually read the reports, they would see that they announced like 4 new missiles designs, not just one.

Some of these designs are of missile types that have never been fielded before. All in all, they disclosed a new heavy ICBM, a hypersonic strike platform, a nuclear-powered ICBM, and long-ranged air-launched cruise missiles (for use in their expanded strategic bomber fleet). They also disclosed their nuclear sea drone and the regular deployment of offensive laser platforms among their ground forces (which they have had since the 1950s, but not on this scale).

The point of all this is to make it clear to Americans that they do not hold the capability to carry out a first strike on Russia without catastrophic results. Afterall, this is why the USA dropped out of the nuclear arms treaty to begin with: to gain an edge over Russia in the scenario of launching a decisive, preemptive nuclear attack.

Even now, Americans still ignore the reality of the situation. Why is it that you think the Russian economy is failing because of oil prices? You do realize that they have sorted all that out years ago, right? In fact, Putin even mentioned in the speech that they plan for the Russian economy was to keep it at a growth rate just above the global average... yet they are able to sustain their country and cutting-edge military development and deployment at a fraction of what the USA spends. It’s almost as if things are not as they seem.

That's interesting. I have no idea if what you say is true but it sounds like you know your stuff.
On tv I heard some say it is more a little exaggerating because the things they present are not built and tested yet.
But the point is it seems it's taken as being serious. That's what counts.

Our military likely knows the gist of what russia can do is.

Id suspect that Putins bluster is more about speaking for the average joe to hear. Which tells me it's propaganda.

Meh. Blow up the world then. I aint gonna let worrying about it ruin my last days. But im 99% sure this is just the US and Russia playing pretend for leverage within their own borders.

Maybe Podesta can hack into them and just send them back.

Sounds like these Nuke powered missiles would be easy.

And wtf does nuke powered mean?

Why not Lithium crystals?

Round the world and back home.

When ever you see computer animation from russia they are lying. When Russia brags about weapons it means they drew it up in a cad program and made a computer simulation. Basic truth they don't have the money to do any of these super weapons they brag about. In fact half there nuclear arsenal needs repair. Nothing has been done to maintain them and half wouldn't even launch.

And for his video release they used the same exact footage they used on the now defunct Satan missile. That was a pipe dream as well here's the original documentary in Russian discussing satan. I won't embed it. But if you want to look you'll see the same computer animation he used in this.

We conceived of this tech back in the late 50's and had a few trial runs for the nuclear ramjet in the mid 60's. As far as we know that's where we stopped. No doubt the Russian versions are modernized and capable of much more, but we've had this in the back of our minds for awhile.

It's still escalation, for sure. Luckily, it seems like a mothballed tech that we developed but never took anywhere. At least we have a clue of what we're up against.

Here's a nostalgic video from 1959 that explains how a SLAM (Supersonic Low Altitude Missile) works:

This is sophisticated but fairly old technology. Don't get me wrong, this is a threat. Hopefully we've had a few ideas kicked around on how to deal with these with miniaturized nuclear payloads headed in our direction.

His whole talk is totally ludicrous and he knows it. The concept of MAD still exists. He can launch all the missiles he wants at us, and a few minutes later, NATO and all our sea based subs launch everything they have at Russia. End result: both countries destroyed. It wont ever happen. Ever.

They also disclosed their nuclear sea drone. but what can he really hit with these nuclear sea drones.

Most of the important US naval bases are deep in harbors and a simple side scan sonar system with short range high speed torpedoes can be set up to find and kill these drones.
