Look at this chart. USA isn't anywhere near the top when you break it down like this. Interesting.

Remind me to stay the hell out of Africa.

Gun Murders in England, Scotland and Wales 2011/12 There were 640 Murders / Homicides in Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) in 2011/12 (10.43 per million population) Of these 640 Murders / Homicides, 44 involved a gun or firearm as the main weapon. Gun murders in Britain in 2011/12 represent 6% of the murder cases, (0.72 gun homicides per million population).

www.citizensreportuk.org...

what about the people who were killed by other means? As has been said at least once, if you can't find a gun, but you really want to kill someone, you will find a way.

Murder rate in the UK is far lower than in the US. If you make it harder to kill (less guns), less people get killed.

how about this angle. With the population of the UK being such a large percentage lower than the US, it stands to reason that there are less crazy folks over there. So with an exponentially larger number of lunatics here, we have a more prevalent society willing to kill others, rather than be sane and not kill others. (like most sane people do)

I think it's important to understand why the numbers are like they are.

no doubt. That chart is a bit scary. Some of those numbers make the US look like a giant disneyland, and it's pretty far from that.

Why would Americans be more aggressive by nature? ( and if you think they are you have never been an old firm game).

Is one of the reasons US police are more aggressive due to the far higher likelihood of being shot? Armed police in the UK are the exception because armed criminals are the exception.

Americans are bigger, stronger, meaner than brits...nasty creatures...that's why you all lost the war...twice...lol

You ungrateful colonials only got your independence because of the French. How embarrassing relying on the French.

We won in 1812.

There is another thread on the go at the moment where I make more or less the same point.

The obsession with assault weapons is pointless.

Handguns are the problem, not rifles.

Alternatively the population of the UK is half again that of California. We should therefore have 50% more crazies.

How does UK gun deaths compare to California?

We won in 1812.

That was kind of a win-win for everybody but the Native Americans. While keeping its independence, the US got the maritime trade restrictions removed, and got out of the forced conscription of Americans into the Royal Navy. The British got to keep Canada and "bragging rights." The Indians got thoroughly boned by rapid expansion west.

that is a good comparison. The loony left in CA compared to the loony left in the UK. As with most things, we win there as well. You blokes were too busy eating fish and chips.

These mass school shootings are obviously not only guns or lack of access to health care or Guatemala and Russia would be full of school shootings.

We have an illness in the culture itself. Part of it is the division people welcome and enjoy promoting.

I love how you guys actually think you have a left wing.

And if we are going for national stereotypes as a Scotsman I demand nothing less than chasing haggis, being drunk and men wearing skirts with no underwear to formal occasions.

What is a normal American?

On Gun control surveys tend to show a near even split between for and against tighter rules.

You had a near 50/50 split at the last presidential election.

Is normal one of those words that means something different in American English?

Yea. Like when we say, those blokes across the pond are fairly normal. (normal is a relative term, or as I say, a setting on the dryer)

In case you were lost in un-humorville, I was joking. Just assume I am the bad guy and move along.

Got it was a joke.

I generally assume most posts on this site are jokes. If i took people here seriously I would be out the back building a bunker under the patio.

36 "kids" since Jan 1 have died to handgun...I think hand guns are winning over rifles of all kinds..

What is a normal Brit? My neighbor is brit and we got into a gun debate years ago. He has like a 32 revolver for home defense, I'm prior military type with everything and 1000s of rounds... He said I do not need any of it past his 32, and I said it is not a need, but a right...we went back and forth until I asked him, WTSHTF where are you going...he said, of course I'm coming to your house...end of debate...
