More guns = more gun deaths

We here in the US have 42% of the worlds guns. We also have about 4X the amount of mass shootings (more than 4 people shot during the event). I am honestly aghast at the amount of people who refuse to recognize the correlation. Yes, there are probably other factors (pharmaceuticals, mental health, a culture of fear of "other"), but ignoring these statistics must obviously create some major cognitive dissonance among those of you who refuse to believe more guns equals more gun deaths.

I am sure many of you will stick by your fear that the government is coming for your guns and that its a constitutional freedom, but regardless... America's unhealthy obsession with firearms is a deadly one. The NRA spends millions upon millions of dollars propping up their purchased politicians and many of us buy their propaganda, otherwise... "they'll take away our freedom" ... I get it, I don't like the idea of losing freedoms either, but at what cost? a few hundred kids getting killed each year?

Read the article and argue the stats if you like.

I don't like the idea of having to fight a government any more than you do, sounds like a losing proposition for both sides.

Problem with these types of articles is they do not differentiate between suicide and killing people, and to me at least there is a world of difference between suicide and murder.

If we had decent mental health facilities in our country then the number would shrink significantly, but folks always want to focus on the inanimate object rather than the problems with our society where sick people have little options for getting help.

Today’s shootings were again done by a person in ILLEGAL possession of a firearm. Firearms are not the problem...

...perhaps we should look at how we’re raising our children to avoid all conflict, run to safe spaces, not learn to interact civilly, to not logically think through problems...the list goes on...

Close... actually, require seatbelts, require a license, require safety standards etc.

So, looking around the internet, just for fun. We may have the most "multiple" shootings, but we seem to still not have as many deaths by guns, as some other countries. Honduras? Venezuela? A few others if you care to look.

The most deaths by firearm occur in foreign countries the uS military is invading. The problem is not arms in the hands of citizens, its arms in the hands of the Gubment.

The US manufactures arms, ships them around the world more than any other country, using them to kill millions of people. Here at home the police are becoming more militarized too. They are killing more citizens in this country. Their biggest fear is armed americans defending themselves from the Police State and the Military.

The cry to disarm is a a cry to disarm Americans, putting all the guns in the hands of Authorities.

I only partially agree with you. We for sure do have some imbedded cultural issues that clearly are causing an increase in murderous tendencies. We also have more guns than any other nation and extremely lax laws surrounding them.

Problem is when you look at an actual breakdown of gun violence, take out suicide, take out legal police shootings, take out gang on gang violence.

Our numbers are not that different than any other developed nation, when folks go on about we have to ban "military style assault weapons" they never actually look at the number of victims from an AR or SKS platform, that is like 300 a year roughly.

When what we should be doing is fixing our mental health problem, fixing our broken family units, fixing things that might actually make a difference rather than focusing on laws that will not stop a psycho from getting a gun and killing people.
