This has already been covered in World Sports, but there is more going on here and this is very much a Social Issue.

Feminists and other groups that advocate for the fair treatment of women in the workplace should be alarmed utterly disgusted by the fact that in today's world a group of women have just become victims of discrimination. Formula One's Grid Girls have been unfairly victimised because of the way they dress, and the way they look. These ladies have lost a valuable stream of income, been denied the opportunity to work, and will likely face further financial hardship by losing a high profile platform that leads to offers of further paid work.

This disgusting treatment will almost certainly spread to other Motorsport and those who care about fairness in employment for women should be concerned for Cheerleaders, Ring Girls and the many other women that receive legitimate payments for honest work.

Thats what makes me mad about feminism and what it's become this past decade. Otherwise, a wonderful concept. Why should Grid Girls or even Sex workers be shamed? That's the point of wanting freedom for women, the freedom to choose what industry we work, how we dress, if some want to cover up and be prudes, you go girl! If I want to dress scantily etc.... Go me too! What the heck?!

I feel so awful for those Grid girls and many others who fall victim to the hyena that this kind of feminism is. It really effs it all up for the true feminists out there.

It's a commercial decision by one of the biggest companies in world sport with no outside ideological pressure.

That's the free market at work. What's the problem? Would you rather governments told F1 how to run their events?

How does using the beauty of the female form advance or enhance a sport that is predominately male orientated? Regardless of the orientation of a sport or its's participants, how does said sport warrant employing a scantily clad person to show the scores, the round, the leg or the state of play really help? Employment?

not really sure if this is discrimination, although I admit I don't really have much of a back ground story on this...
for it to be discrimination the feminists would have taken a very active role of having them removed from their jobs..
don't really believe that to be the case. more than like the industry that hired them to begin with reacted what they saw as public pressure.. but, it was still the industry that decided that their time had passes.

if I were to accept the idea that what is being claimed is true, the the op is saying he is writing to the companies threatening to boycott them if this policy isn't reversed. so, if that trend takes hold and the people working at those companies end up being let go because your boycotts reduced demand too much, wouldn't that mean you are discriminating against those employees also?
who has the final say in just what these girls wear as they do their job, my guess would be the industry? so, the industry more than likely had other options outside of letting them go. they could have changed their outfits to something a little less revealing couldn't they have?

but oh, ya, it's the evil feminists... and that darn me to movement.

Women Discriminated Against

According to this, it's the white males that are discriminated against.

What's the difference between the "Grid Girls" and fashion models? I mean other than fashion models wear much more revealing clothing?

Oh good I figured this thread was just another straw man, nice to have it confirmed.

The cynic in me wonders if this is just a cost cutting move disguised as being progressive.
My bet is that there will still be eye candy for the podium presentation.

Perhaps you are right.
Maybe they were asking for it with the way they were dressing.

I cannot find it, so if someone can help me that would be appreciated. When I saw this on the news last night, the girl they had talking about how unfair it was, had shared photos from her career as a Grid Girl (which led to her being a stunt driver, as well as a few other cool opportunities) and almost every photo she was wearing more clothing as an adult fully developed woman than I wore as a 15 year old at the skate park. Her outfits were tasteful and beautiful, almost like you were going to some kind of play or as if she was some kind of Disney (but not Disney) character. They were that cool and that well put together. So they aren't ALWAYS under dressed. But even when they are, so what?

It's simple risk mitigation.

F1 has been having some pretty major issues for the past 5 odd years. It would appear that they are dropping everything, and anything, that could become an issue in the next 5 odd years.

A shrewd move on their part.

Oh okay. That gives me a little more insight. I knew nothing about F1 really. I knew about the girls who hold the flags etc... but didn't realize they were called "Grid Girls" but the fact that those women held their careers in such high regard and enjoyed them so much really made me feel sympathy for them feeling so threatened to lose something they cherish.

Ah, the slippery slope is increasing angle and ditching friction at a really fun pace.

Next up: Fashion shows. Miss 'anything' pageants and anything that glamorizes or glorifies the female form.

Yeah.

I guess it's gonna be up to the drivers to show a bit of skin now.

I am really tired of people destroying things because they decide to feel offended on behalf of others.

In this case, women who think Grid Girls are being exploited but didn't bother to actually ask them about how they felt. No! They're obviously being exploited so they must go, and so these girls are possibly losing their work because some other women want to feel morally good about themselves for having "saved" these poor girls.

So much feminism being about doing what you want to do.

Next up: Anything that doesn't fawn over the morbidly obese.

FTFY. It's the direction I see being taken on a daily basis. Ashley Graham is becoming "too thin" and not "representative" of "real women". I'm not saying the fattest women are taking over, but the push to glamorize the morbidly obese is strong as of late, and has an extremely loud & staunch feminist backing to it. There is an ideals malignancy afoot, the catch is trying to figure out why they're focusing on the extreme end as a "representation" (Tess Holliday or however the hell you spell it, etc)
