True. It just seemed to sound way worse than normal, almost like he still had his mouthpiece in (or a mouthful of Skittles). I'm just surprised by how ineffective Ngannou was on the ground and against the cage. He couldn't do anything at all. I know he seemed to gas out by the end of the 1st, but dude looked like an amateur in those positions. He was even saved by the bell.

Glad I'm not a gambler.

Ok he has the hardest ever 'recorded' punch on the planet to date. It's that better? Am I still naive?

100%. Stipe ate the required shots, had a full gas tank, and proved himself to be MMA’s HW GOAT. And just a really good dude. He’s not some douche-bro. He doesn’t trash-talk. He shows up, bites down on his mouthpiece, and pieces up his competition.

Moreover, he’s getting a fight with DC (he wins that fight 7/10) and Holloway just dropped out of his Edgar fight, so MMA fans can be discerning in spending their PPV $: only 2 fights worth buying (outside of a return of Nathan Diaz) 1) Stipe v DC; 2) Ferguson v Khabib (and that’s surely not a certainty). Hopefully, the Stipe v DC fight clears 650,000 buys — that’s about the point where any significant PPV juice is realized.

ufc 223 is what i care about right now.

omg man. tony ferguson vs khabib.
i cant take it.

i really want tony cause he is a 10th planet black belt and he is nasty. as much as i hate to say it i dont see him getting past khabib. they are gonna tear it up.

and on the same card we have the thug rematch with the boogey woman.

oh yeah

I hear ya! Khabib is a beast and a “no problems”-on-weight- Khabib will hurt Tony. Tony will not get stopped or tapped, but his toughness may cost him a brutal 5 rd beating. However, that means Tony doesn’t have plan, and it sounds like he and Bravo have a stoner-simple plan: engage Khabib and fight his in-guard game (and being a 10th planet guy you know this isn’t some Psy-ops, it’s their plan, and I actually like it [gotta go home with the date you too k to the dance — this is strategy is what got El Cucuy to champ]). I just have this feeling Tony is in that champ headspace and I feel like when it gets ugly and Khabib thinks he has got it, Tony turns the tables and Khabib is “oh f$ck, what now?!”

Regardless, it’s worth buying and I look forward to a thread (I’d forget to create one but if I don’t see one go up I’ll sign in and create one).

Cheers

i really hope tony can pull it off. tony is a hell of a striker but if khabib wants you down then youre down.

99% of the time that would be an advantage for tony cause his bottom game is tight. rubber guard is polished.
but khabib is like no other wrestler i have seen. i dont know if tony can submit khabib from the bottom.

having said all that IF tony uses a solid rubber guard and IF tony gets him from the bottom with a gogo or triangle or omoplata or something this will make eddie a very happy man. what more proof can we have that rubber guard does work in mma if you can use it to control and submit from the bottom a wrestler like khabib.

and thug rose mofo!!!!!

I'm with you on this. But I refuse to get my hopes up until they both make it into the cage.

The more I look at it, I don't see a clear advantage for either of them. They're both beasts on the ground but for completely different reasons, so now I won't be surprised regardless of who wins. Khabib's an elite grappler with good submissions while Tony's a good grappler with elite submissions lol. Way too tough to call (for me, at least).

and on the same card we have the thug rematch with the boogey woman.

I actually hate this instant rematch. I feel like if a fighter gets finished in the first round, they don't deserve an instant rematch.

With my weirdo way of looking at it, I imagine fights as if they were street fights or fights in the middle of nature. If the fight's over in the first 3 to 5 minutes, then there wouldn't have been enough time to get police help or any kind of assistance. But if the fight gets to the break in between rounds, now other people are able to help you recover, point out new strategies, patch up your wounds, positions get reset, etc.

So if you can survive past the first round, that at least proves that you could handle yourself to an extent on your own (that's not a foolproof theory but meh). I guess I see it like "1 round is a fight but 2 or more rounds becomes a sport".

Don't forget Tibau. I pretty much always root for Khabib, but I think he lost that fight. To be fair, Tibau looked like he was abut 200lbs during the fight, though.

Yes, I’m a Thug Rose fan! Her partner, Pat “HD” Barry, is a good dude, too. I’ll never forget his fight with Cheick Kongo...

No prognistication for her fight with Joanna...simply hoping she stays in the pocket and gives as much as she takes and mentally breaks Joanna with sheer perseverance. Joanna is still champion in her mind (she blames the loss on everyone and thing but herself)...Rose just needs to trust the process and stay level-headed and bank on Joanna breaking mentally — Joanna is the far superior MT specialist but she doesn’t have mental fortitude to convince me she runs this back with ease.

Will be interesting to see fight week betting odds.

Sidebar: I’m crestfallen Max “Blessed” Holloway has been injured and the Edgar fight is off. Max will never be a ‘star’, but he’s the future of 155 (after he fights and dismantles Edgar). Once the T-Ferg v Khabib fight happens, and we realize McGregor isn’t fighting anyone not named Nathan Diaz, I anxiously await his attempt to become a 2-division champ. It’s a ways off, but I love his chance against T-Ferg...he’s still growing into his man’s body (just turned 26) and I believe he’ll grow stronger still and his chances against Khabib are legit.
