I think the Solo movie is going to be a bomb, hope I am wrong but I just can't see it being done right.

TFA was new and pretty good, almost everybody liked it, it's 93/88 on RT ratio plus it broke just about every record on boxoffice mojo in over 60 categories. I frequent SW boards with hardcore science fiction fans and many are not happy, especially when Mark Hamill himself hates what they did with Luke Skywalker in the TLJ.

As to your comment on Alt-Right going against SW this round there is some of that if you visit Reddit aka The Donald, so yeah it's true, but that is maybe 600,000 in America only, that doesn't make a difference at the box office.

I give more stock to the liberal left loving SW boards that are very much against the alt-right, TFN has pretty much banned them all from the "Senate" that talked about politics this past election cycle, it's now an echo chamber of pat each other on the back and give each other high fives for being so much smarter than the other guys.
And many of these fans strongly dislike the movie, your theory does not hold up on those guys, they are not alt-right they hate the alt-right.

Oh I'm sure the solo movie will bomb too.

He's supposed to be a scoundrel with no morals but they will have him saving a ship full of kittens.

At least though it will either prove that Disney is not worthy of Star Wars or Disney will finally create original Star Wars stories.

Yeah Disney read him the riot act, which was do you ever want to voice another cartoon character again?

They now own another studio so they have tremendous power.

Did they? I'd like to see proof of that.

He groused about the last film and his role and then spoke highly of it. He's very capricious in that regard.

I miss Siskel and Ebert. They actually discussed the nuances of movies with intelligence and insight. Sometimes I agreed with one or the other.

Rotten Tomatoes is just that-rotten.

I think this Mark Hamil video clip perfectly encapsulates why fans reacted the way they did, critics don't get it this round.

Then everything is better

I didn't mind The Last Jedi, It was an ok movie. Granted I'm not a huge SW fan and had realistic expectations.

Sometimes it's nice to take a break from the depth and intellectual aspects of a serious franchise like star trek, and just go and have fun and watch people fly through space and bombers "drop" bombs on a ship in the absence of gravity.......the kids love it though.

The paid critics were right to highly rate "The Last Jedi". It's been both ridiculously profitable and entertaining to the people who liked it. It's brought in something like $800 million in the last 2 weeks. If I'm pushing a product and it almost reaches $1 billion worth of sales in 2 weeks, why would I give a crap about some anonymous online haters?

I used to pay attention to negative reviews for entertainment products but now I take them with a grain of salt. There are always going to be people who whine and complain about something, so statistically, it's best to just ignore those outliers. (Also, negative reviewers can also be paid critics. Amazon.com's had issues with that before.)

In short: base your entertainment decisions on whether you think you'll like it or not, not on whether other people say they like it. Talk about "herd mentality" lol. If you think a movie looks interesting, then watch it. If you think a song is good, then re-listen to it. If you think a specific fighter's style is entertaining, then keep watching their fights. I really don't care if some dork on the other side of the planet says they love or hate a tv series or artist that I regularly enjoy.

I think a lot of people hate this because someone on the inter webs told them that they hated it because there was no lightsaber fights.... or that Yoda shouldn't be able to use the force.... its all crap.

Like all of it is utter crap, all this rubbish about how they broke the lore is complete crap.

So true. All the people saying it broke lore...Don't know the lore. There is a lot more to Star Wars than just the movies. While the Extended Universe is no longer canon. Disney has always said they can pick and choose what they want to bring back.

Just go look at all the stuff Jacen Solo(Darth Caedus) could do in the EU books or all the different aspects of the Force that they started to explore towards the end of the Extended Universe. There is also multiple instances of force users, using the Force after death. They are just bringing that stuff into the movies.

But....no one really cares about that. At least the people complaining about it don't. Its just like all the complaining that happened over Miles Morales in the Spiderman comics or the story line in Captain America about him secretly working for Hydra. When you actually talk to the people complaining you realize that they are not actual fans and don't read the comics.

Its the same thing here with Star Wars. People who did not care about the property suddenly caring when someone on the internet told them they should be mad.

I only care about if a movie is fun.

Critics seem obsessed with arty farty stuff and pushing boundaries and wallowing in left SJW crap, entertainment for them is a low priority

The fact Hollyweird paid movie critics to become yes men is a sign that they are getting desperate.

If you ask so called fans about KOTOR or Kyle Katarn, they will have no idea what you are talking about.

Kyle Katarn for the win!

Give him a movie. Make it deadpool style as starwars first 15 rated film.

You don't have to be a trained chef to know if you like the taste of dinner.
Movies are the same. I've never written or directed a movie but I know the new star wars sucked.

A billion dollars worth of suck. Such a failure! For the record:

4-5-6 were great
1-2-3 sucked, not even worth watching
7 repeated 4, therefore sucked
8 was really pretty good
9 ? Meh
Laura Dern: I'm in love. She can do anything she wants.

I ignore anything a critic says and go with my impression of the trailers, if I like the sound of the story, etc.

Don't care a bit about arthouse symbolism and other such things. I like action movies. I like fantasy, comics and sci-fi. Those movies are often panned by critics, so I don't rely on them to tell me what I should think about a movie.

Mark Hamill 'still hasn't accepted' Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi storyline: 'He's not my Luke Skywalker'

That was three days ago, he's since changed his mind.

Yeah, I'm sure he wasn't pressured into it at all. He was only thinking about this for the 8 months they spent filming... but he changed his mind just the other day.
