The right:

"We get to keep our guns to protect ourselves from the wicked gov'ment!"
.. Trump gets elected..
"OH yea, the police should totally get military surplus, that's a great idea!"

Brilliant.

Remember Ferguson:

The police rolled out all that hardware and escalated the violence rather than control the situation. Once the state police tried a less confrontational approach, the violence started to diminish.

Here are a couple of threads that came up during the Ferguson riots:
So, How's That Police State Working Out For Ya?
Rioting, looting reported in Ferguson (Missouri)
There were a few comments in those threads that stressed the need for citizens to be armed to resist such militarized police actions by Obama's government. Now, under Donald Trump, apparently some of those same type of ATS citizens are saying it's okay for the police to be armed like a military occupation force.

What were those police protecting? Federal and State property! They sure as hell weren't protecting the businesses run by POC or minorities!

Oathkeepers showed up at the request of a few business owners to protect their property from the so called "Peaceful Protestors"!

Get your head out of the sand! Go after those who give the police their orders!! Don't want to do that though do ya, because those people just might have the Party D or R in front of their name and you sure don't want to shatter your belief in your parties purity DOYA?????

God DAMN you people who want to treat the symptom rather than the cause of it amazes me!!!!!

I agree.

Like poor police training and the idiot politicians who say they support police but just give them tanks.

Then a 300lb man pisses his pants and his partner gets shot.

Anyone that's taken a good look at modern American society shouldn't have a problem with it.

From Ferguson to protesting private citizens running to become president to protesting 'white supremacists'.

To everday city life in urban utopias like Chicago.

If people think the cops should be dressing like Barney Fife.

They need to take their rose colored glasses off at take a good long hard look at 'Murica.

It's one thing to be, and looked like an equipped officer, it's another to look like you're outfitted for a firefight in Beirut. I've been in both professions at one point in my life, and the line between the two may be thin this day and age, but the line is distinct, and should stay as so..........

I'm not sure what you're going off about. My point is that the deployment of these military assets by the police in Ferguson escalated the situation.

The other point I was trying to make was that a lot of the people here that are now supporting this option were firmly against it at that time. I think it's always important to expose hypocrisy when I encounter it.

If people bring it upon themselves to take the law into their own hands and become violent which is exactly what we saw in Ferguson how can you blame the police for escalating it???

Should they have sat back while businesses were looted and burnt to the ground?

What I am going off about is those of you who support violent protests and then turn around and blame the police who the protests were about! Why are the protests about the police and not the politicians who are not only giving the police their orders but protecting them when they DO WRONG???? Judges included!

Wouldn't that mean they're "winning" as far as Trump logic goes?

When the less heavily armed state police came in the next day there was far less violence.

Should they have sat back while businesses were looted and burnt to the ground?

I don't know how much of that they actually stopped from happening anyway.

I don't support any violent protests. In an ideal world, the protesters and the police should cooperate to make sure that violence doesn't break out.

Why are the protests about the police and not the politicians who are not only giving the police their orders but protecting them when they DO WRONG???? Judges included!

That's a very good question. I don't have an answer for that.

Isn't it interesting how some try to make it sound as though the police are rolling down our streets in tanks, when that is simply not true?

This poster equated rape as a "joy of sex."

It's kind of hard to take them serious after that, lol. Very, very emotional poster for sure.

Are you serious?

Can you provide some context? Even better a quote?

Then all of a sudden the fear mongering is everyone else BUT the citizens of the united states. Close all boarders, build walls, advocate terrorism will get you and your children at ANY TIME, advocate buying MORE guns. Now pushing for local police to tout and carry military grade weapons and armor and equipment to 'protect' everyone from everyone else.

Exactly , the politics of fear can be used to push through anything they want , Mother is here to protect.

No, Military equipment for use against criminals.

And protesters because malcontents are a danger to the order of things.
The problem is "criminals" can have a wide definition , militarizing the police is the thin end of the wedge.

Let’s see, the thugs carry uzi’s or similar...of course local police shoukd carry 6-round .38’s and stun gun.

They don't carry shotguns in patrol cars anymore ?
All thugs carry uzi’s or similar now ? , can the ones that do not be dealt with be SWAT as they have been up until now ?

You guys are sleepwalking into a police state and welcoming it with open arms , once it's here it's here to stay.

Did you know that the Chemical Weapons Convention the US signed doesn't apply to domestic law enforcement?

Signatories to the Chemical Weapons Convention are free to manufacture riot-control agents— defined as chemicals that cause short-lived irritation or disabling effects—as long as they report their holdings to an international body and don't make so much that their stockpile is inconsistent with domestic use.

Not clueless of human nature.

Want to tell us your qualifications for being the 'expert' ?

Homan Square

In a nutshell "F### Chicago PD"
"F### a militarized police force!"

I like my rights, and my life, but will easily give up the latter for the former.

This would be a pretty good time for Cult45 to prove they’re not deluded fools and finally disagree vocally with a Trump idea for once...

That’s probably wishful thinking.

Just as I promised, we are allowing our local police to access surplus military equipment.

This is the ultimate proof he is full of #...

Previously... According to every right winger, including Trump...
There was a severe lack of equipment in the military, it had been “decimated”...

Now all of a sudden there is a “surplus”...

2+2=5 Winston!!!
