Most police are not vets. The estimate is less than 1/3rd.

The stats are 80 percent over weight. How many over weight soldiers?

The stats for marksmanship are terrible. Posted links already.

Don't hate cops. My best friend and assistant wrestling coach is a cop.

He says the same things. Must hate himself.

He is a vet.

Those stats, do they happen to seperate desk jobs and detectives from patrolling officers, or is it just overall?

Marksmanship can and should be improved, I believe anyone who owns a weapon has a certain responsibility to be somewhat proficient.

It shouldn't matter regarding detectives or even desk jobs. No need to complicate the training and requirements. How would you change or advance positions?

How many police jobs are only desk jobs?

80 percent is way to high any way you shake it.

You shouldn't be able to have a gun and be over weight. You shouldn't have a gun and not be able to shoot or make good decisions.

There are literally iq caps in some forces.

I am all for the cops being BA and armed with what they need, but we need law reform asap.

I am already terrified a cop is going to shoot my dog because his bark disrespected him, or they come to my house by mistake.

I work hard and don't break the law and am scared to leave him in the yard on a rope. That is utter BS.

I am scared to be pulled over driving with my dog.

It is time to assess what constitutes writing a law to begin with, and stop this society-wrecking, criminal-building, prison planet law as a business model, morality based punishment psycho BS.

Obama might have spoken against police militarization, but he secretly helped militarize police, including federal agencies who never before even carried sidearms.

Obama was the kind of skunk who promised to help all kinds of peoples, while securing ways and means to harm them and steal away their liberties behind closed doors.

"Thugs" aren't that well armed. Pretty sure, our "laws" (U.S.) ..don't allow for "armed thugs". That's illegal! LOL! "Democratically" speaking, "armed thugs" are a insignificant minority in our Republic.. I personally can't understand why any LEO can't just do their job. It's already "law", that the police/leo has no "legal" obligations to "protect" you. That's your job! So why should leo have better access to "equipment" than you? Because "News Reports" don't sell that way. Can't sell "law" and "propaganda" with dead "witnesses"... Violence, is everybody's job! Use it, honorably and sparingly.

It would help the debate to know what we were debating.

Are we talking jungle boots, extra .45's, that Gatling gun from terminator?

Actually I don't support the militarization of any police force, because they always abuse the extended power it gives them. Trump does quite a few things that I detest.

Thank you for asking

I don't disagree that it's too high either way I was just wondering because it seems to easy to conflate statistics.

I believe that categorizing them by job description matters to the overall picture. Also the context of the fitness or lack thereof, BMI index or physical testing.

That's identity politics in action my friend. Everyone knows some people have more limitation of capabilities than others, but we can't admit that by law. I understand why due to discriminatory action, but it makes us extremely inefficient and creates apathy.

I don't believe in not having a gun if your overweight, but anyone should understand the responsibility of having a weapon and know how to handle it.

Police departments -
The largest number of requests for material comes from small to mid-sized police departments who are unable to afford extra clothing, vehicles and weapons. The program gives smaller police departments access to material that larger police departments are usually able to afford without federal assistance.[17]

A memorandum of agreement between the DLA and the states participating in 1033 requires that local police forces either utilize the military equipment within one year or return it.[8] The rules allow police to dispose of or sell some goods after at least one year of usage.[18]

School districts
The Los Angeles School Police Department has also received excess military equipment, including 61 assault rifles, three grenade launchers, and an MRAP vehicle.[21]

School Police Departments in Texas also participate in the 1033 program, in total acquiring 25 automatic pistols, 64 M16 assault rifles, 18 M14 assault rifles, 15 military vehicles equipped with weaponry, armored plating, and tactical vests.
[22]

Pretty standard back to school gear right? No way it could be used for anything but tackling gangs.

1033

Some of the most commonly requested items include ammunition, cold weather clothing, sand bags, medical supplies, sleeping bags, flashlights and electrical wiring. Small arms and vehicles such as aircraft, watercraft and armored vehicles have also been obtained.

The program has been criticized over the years by local media, by the Office of the Inspector General, U.S. Department of Defense in 2003 and the GAO which found waste, abuse and fraud. It was not until media coverage of police during August 2014 Ferguson unrest that the program drew nationwide public attention; the Ferguson Police Department had equipment obtained through the 1033 program.[2]

Just a few years ago, I was a lurker and watching members on this thread, mainly conservative who were absolutely livid with how the police were treating the American public.

They were enraged, they were enraged at the lack of oversite, and they were enraged at the equipment they were allowed to use against the American people to violate our rights and supress the public.

Now its ok because Trump

Do any of you realize what giant hypocrites you are? Or atleast LOOK LIKE you are?

Do you understand that futher militarization of police force is a direct threat to our constitution and bill of rights?

Lets say that they decide at some point they ARE going to take our guns, and now you have a completely militarized police force, how do you think thats going to go? It would be horrible now, it would be an absolute bloodbath if you continue letting sh!t like this slide "Because Trump"

Dump your party cheerleading, stop being a fan boy, and start looking at actual facts, and the dangerous implications of things such as this.

Where is your objectivity? Where is your love of country and countrymen and our forefathers? They would NOT be happy about this.

Time to unbrainwash yourselves from the Trump madness

This started way back during the Clinton Administration . It was escalated severely by Obama (I was for it before I was against it) . Under Obama our small city received a Bradley APC for our SWAT Team as a gift from the Obama Administration .

We dont have a SWAT Team.

Cops are trained to be REMFs. They swear an "oath". But never have read it! They don't site you on "law". They site you on "violations" of, regulation, statutes, ordinance, none of that being, "law". If they'd have actually read the "law".. They probably wouldn't have done the paperwork. That's why cops are a special kind of stupid. If they were smart, they wouldn't F with you! Or they would, and it'll become a major propaganda operation... Not unlike, HERE!

I meant an officer who needs to fire in stress in public with fire arms.

I do 3 gun races. I shoot once a week. Far more than most Leo's sadly.

When I don't shoot regularly I don't cc

I think one reason I have trouble seeing those numbers as real, is my own eyes.

Now I've attended a couple of dinners where among the guests were many local officers and there were a few very large men. By large I mean 300 lb physically fit men who could no doubt bench press a VW Bug. (Exaggerating a bit
)

I know 5 of them personally and they all served in the military first. May be different up here I don't know, but these officers are not unfit. Of course if you go into their main building you will see older less fit people manning desks, but they are not out chasing bad guys.

Must be quite different in other area's if those stats are true. I hope with the heavily muscled officers they are not employing that silly standard the govt. uses for what a persons weight should be. Some of the most fit people on the planet would be deemed fat using that standard.

That clause won't cause any problems or anything. Take it and use it, or loose it.

Yeah I got a big Hell No for arming the cops with autos and grenade launchers.

That is ridiculous. The national guard can handle that grade of weaponry, if it's needed.

Obama administration also tied the military's hands when it came to fighting his Muslim brothers in the U.S. vs ISIS war. Thank God those days are behind us!
