PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - A controversial bill is currently working its way through city hall designed to regulate 'stop and go' liquor stores. One part of the bill would force business owners to take down bulletproof glass inside their stores. But at what cost to their safety?

Broad Deli sits on the corner of the 2200 block of North Broad, inside a wall of bulletproof glass separates customers from workers.

"The most important thing is safety and the public's safety," owner Rich Kim said.

What a brilliant idea this is! Is bullet resistant glass "racist"? What other motives could there be.. Let the logic explain this.

They should couple this with a honor system cash register.

Logic can't explain it, it makes absolutely no sense. All races are prone to robbing stores and bulletproof glass does not discriminate. If an area is more prone to robberies then it only makes sense to take measures to protect store employees against that possibility. There's nothing racist about taking statistics of certain areas into account.

This is like saying speed limit signs are the cause of speeding.
Or maybe no trespassing signs are the root cause of trespassing.

Bulletproof glass is the result of dangerous customers, not the other way around.

Another "Regressive" idea from Philadelphia. Disarm those who need protection. This will be just as successful as the Soda Tax!

Looks like they are helping insurance companies to raise their prices.

I doubt this will help crime and will bet money on a higher body count.

There can only be a political reason behind this. Only politics or religion can come up with an idea like this.

Hmmmm

She wants to put some controls on these small stores that she says sell booze, very little food and are the source of trouble in her district

So it's the store selling things thats the problem...not the clientele. Got it.

The Bulletproof glass causes the violence. Without it, you'll have less crime.

I guess bank and check cashing places in her district should get rid of their bulletproof glass too. Government offices too. We need to destroy these barriers that cause such violence.

Glad to see it's not just Detroit that has moronic legislators.

According to the article you posted it looks like the bill itself is the racist policy. At least that is what the Korean store owner is saying. I can't see the merits of this bill either, racist or not.

I wonder if there is a bulletproof-glass-policeforce that will go around determining which storefronts have the racially motivated and offensive bulletproof glass instead of the non-offensive non-bulletproof glass?
