THIS IS WHY I NEED FEMINISM!!! GET OUT OF HERE WITH YOUR HATE SPEECH!!!

Sorry, bad joke. Not sorry.

I'm all for progressing as a society, but it's sad when it kills long held traditions like this.

We are who we are today because of the things we have learned through history. Dismantling history almost seems regressive rather than progressive. You can't change what happened then. it can only shape the future. Trying to forget it only causes history to repeat itself.

How is this killing a tradition?
It is continuing a tradition. The same way female monarchs have continued the tradition of monarchy.

Since 1361 Black Rod has been a man so there is a tradition of Black Rod being male dating back to the posts inception , that has now changed , that tradition is over.

Female monarchs are born Black Rod is a political appointment , or in this case a politically correct appointment.

So what? Good for her.

It was attitudes like yours that kept the Empress Matilda off the throne. And look what that led to.

God I hope the men at my grandmothers job cried this much when she became the first female manager in the company. LOL

Does it really mean anything? Sometimes you have to pick your battles I guess.

Dude, times are changing. Just think, not too long ago, women in the United States could not vote, let alone run for POTUS. Its called progress.
Get over it.

Just because I disagree with this particular appointment doesn't mean I'm sexist , as much as some here would like to think I am that is not the case.
This appointment is part of the social engineering taking place in this and other countries , I don't like social engineering.

Did you also disagree with Thatcher becoming the first female prime minister?
Or Betty Boothroyd becoming speaker in the house of commons?

Neither of those event destroyed the British parliamentary system.
They just made it a little bit more Incusive than it was before.

So long as Black Rod bangs on the door and gets it shut in their face, and so long as the BBC televises it for everyone to ignore at tea time, then nothing has changed and all is well with the world.

You all do some dumb shat over there in the U.K...........all pomp and ceremony.

That's because we have history that spans more than 200 years , a thing we celebrate.

And you all come on here and bash the U.S.A. for all the dumb shat we do.....pot meet kettle.

There is no comparison to the dumb stuff you do.

Really...do the crusades ring a bell? Taxation without represenation? Losing to a rag tag group of freedom fighters 1/00th the size of your country’s during the American Revolutionary War? Feel free to keep on celebrating...

It was Thatcher's policies I disagreed with not her gender.

Or Betty Boothroyd becoming speaker in the house of commons?

No , I loved Betty Boothroyd and thought she made a first class speaker , she was a politician who went on to serve as Deputy Speaker before becoming Speaker , she earned her position.

Well, everyone hated Thatcher. But parliament is still there.

So it's not this womans gender you object to?
You feel she has not earned her position? Just been given it as a politically correct gesture?

You are probably right. Positive discrimination is always an awkward thing. But I don't think this is the end of a tradition, just the continuation of one.
And I bet there were loads of male Black Rods who were just there as a political sinecure.
