The French and Germans are going to achieve their dream soon of a new EU military now that GB is out of the way. The rise of a united European Union military has been expected for some time and now it appears that is becoming reality.

www.reuters.com...

France and Germany edged toward achieving a 70-year-old ambition to integrate European defenses on Monday, signing a pact with 21 other EU governments to fund, develop and deploy armed forces after Britain’s decision to quit the bloc.

The pact includes all EU governments except Britain, which is leaving the bloc, Denmark, which has opted out of defense matters, Ireland, Portugal and Malta. Traditionally neutral Austria was a late addition to the pact.

Paris originally wanted a vanguard of EU countries to bring money and assets to French-led military missions and projects, while Berlin has sought to be more inclusive, which could reduce effectiveness.
ROLE FOR BRITAIN?

Despite an Anglo-French-led EU defense integration effort in 1998, Britain blocked formal collaboration on military matters, wary of the creation of an EU army.

Defense integration was revived by France and Germany, with support from Italy and Spain, in a show of unity after Britons voted to leave the EU in June 2016.

Well there is no shortage of military age males in Europe since the mad German bat threw the doors open to all the eligible ones from the Middle East and North Africa.

Lol!! I don't think that was any in their itinerary .... think they were

all for an easy life.

Maybe Angela Merkle was eyeing up all those fit young men for military

conscription.

If your intention is to have a European army, many of whom will be French, Italian, Greek and Spanish, importing some outside war fighting prowess is a sound enough strategy.

They've already had it de facto in NATO. This just screams to me proper imperialist foundation building....

That's what the Romans did with all the "Barbarians" in their waning years. It singaled their looming end, and was the final box of nails that enured it.

Mighty interesting to see the EU Empire opt this strategy right out the gates...

I wonder why the Brits didn't want to rely on French troops to have their back.

Can an army be an army when an "ingratiated" army is from 24(for now) different countries?

To stop the language barrier, will the army speak English?

That's certainly a thought provoking comparison.

this is good and about 100 years too late, they should have done this after the first world war and then there wouldn`t have been a second world war. since the only 2 world wars were created and started in Europe this should guarantee that if there is a 3rd world war it won`t be because of the europians, AGAIN! it`s way past time that they started working together to help prevent a world war instead of being the cause of every world war that modern man has known.

I don’t see this lasting very long. Who will control the army and who will pay for it? There is no way all 24 countries will be 100% behind any decision to use the army and it could take many months for a decision to be made if they are to go into action. Just the internal fighting to control the army will be a clusterf__k, and it will leave the army as an ineffective force. This plan could fall flat on its face before it gets started.

The Germans and the French together? No way-they are natural enemies and anyway the French are worthless and the Germans know it. They'll turn on each other because they don't trust each other for good reasons.

So it will be USA, GB, Japan, Australia vs EU vs Russia vs China? I don't think so. And everyone fights it out in the Middle East and Africa? Maybe.

That's bizarre logic, armies are built for war, not for diplomacy.

Being a UK Column watcher on YouTube they have been talking about the EU unification of military forces for quite some time, all through the denials about it from the government. They have also shown that UK is very much going to be part of it and Brexit really is not going to be the Brexit everyone thinks it is, coz we are not going to have our own separate defence force or budget.

I don't think this is about an EU army to take on some outside force
I think its more about shoring up the EU by diluting further the feeling of individual nationhood of the members and, in the worst case, being able to send the tanks in when some uppity member gets ideas about democracy and leaving.

Oh the EU finally came up with a plan of how to get back the EU money they give to member states. Obviously the EU army membership will be mandatory as well... As per usual the EU will not give a flying f@#k about what their member states want. Glorious days...

If a country is a member of the EU army whats the point for them to be in NATO?

NATO has already been sync'ed up with CIA imperialist proxy war operations (see: Syria) and State Dept. + IMF + DOD operations (see: Balkans Conflict).

A proper EU regular army now... hard to imagine they wont need to test it out, and then keep it polished, etc.
