It is not like it has never been done before, countless times and has always ended differently than the dear leaders envisioned.

I've always liked the concept, but not so much the primitive approach. Don't have much interest in that...
Though, I suspect that technology facet alone tends to move it from "isolated community" to "breakaway civilization."
I see no reason not to employ cutting edge, efficient, ultra-advanced tech alongside self-sufficiency while embracing nature.

What if we had no rules, and just let natural justice take care of itself?
Have you ever read the novel "Lord of the Flies"? (William Golding)

The worst thing about living in the forest...forest fires. Horrible, if you don’t have a way out.
There is a whole new set of rules when you live in a mountainous area.

Make our own
With things like raspberryPi, 3d printers, etc. we wouldn't need to have anything to do with "normies" at all.
With the right selection of people, our tech could even surpass the normies in relatively short order.

Could we start a new society/community, out in the forest?
How far could a little self-sufficient society get, with no governance?
Would we self-destruct?
Humanity started-out by having success in daily survival situations.
Why couldn't we do it again? Are we too soft?
What about a bunch of folks just go-off, and start anew? With the intention of never coming back.
What skills would be needed?
