I was actually reading about this and went on ats to see if anyone was talking about it. From what I've read this outbreak is more deadly this year because in addition to transmitting the disease through body fluids, this year the disease is airborne and may be transmitted through coughing sneezing etc. The airborne version has the ability to kill within 24 hours. This happens every year, this year is just much worse because the disease is airborne. The disease comes from fleas and the like. It is also treatable with antibiotics if diagnosed in time. Also we have a few cases in the US every year too. Found this all with just a quick google search.

Oh thanks for that muzzleflash! I saw Black Death and it just resonated with me as Black Plague. I was so confused lol. It is concerning though to see so many of these health epidemics popping up so frequently with such severity.

In his ignorance he probably thought all game hunters are trophy hunters and didn't realize the vast majority hunt for food. Even trophy hunters, most of the animal is used for food. There's hardly any waste. Some people are just uneducated on the subject though and think game hunters are evil.

I have butchered domestic meat from childhood on...have hunted and killed wild animals only for meat....I watched Shocky murder an adult Mountain Grizzly bear on TV last night and almost vomitted from anger.....Trophy hunting should have been outlawed 50 years ago and Predator hunting for sport should have been abolished 50 years ago....it is time for drastic change in the name of preserving meat hunting and subsistance HARVESTING....remove the bloodsport of predator killing and you cant really call it hunting you have to call it harvesting.Predators should be culled only when necessary never "hunted" and meat animls should be HAARVESTED....we should remove the word HUNT from our vocabulary and add some morality to our world in an area where we have been slow to evolve.

To address some comments - why would you weaponize something that kills so quickly, and you need direct close contact to contract it? There are many worse things to weaponize. Also.. of course these can be created naturally and not "in a lab." How do you think all the previous pathogens that wiped out so many millions came about?

Call it whatever you want, in most cases the meat is put to good use. Whether you make a coat or a rug out of the hide is kinda grasping at straws. The animal is dead either way, and it died for a natural purpose, so other animals can live. We are part of nature, no matter how much you want to pretend we're not.

I think we can scale back on the doom porn with this one. Reading through the World Health Organization's fact sheet regarding Marburg Virus Disease, you'll note that there have been several outbreaks of it sense 1967.



Most notably, in Angola in 2005, there were 329 deaths out of 374 cases. Point is, even at an 88% mortality rate, officials were still able to control the outbreak. That was 12+ years ago. Advancements in medical care, knowledge and capability are drastically higher now than in 2005. Even though this seems to be in a relatively remote section of Africa, I'd venture to guess that the W.H.O. won't have any issues shutting it down relatively quickly.
