I'm not questioning your abilities to identify vehicles or what not.. but this occured at NIGHT with lights blaring in your face through your mirror. Chances are the car sped up behind you and quickly turned off. This has happened to me quite a few times. All it takes is a split second for events to change on the road, and I doubt you had your eyes glued to your mirrors the entire time.
If the vehicle behind you had backed off a few meters like you claimed, then perhaps that was the car behind the "FJ Cruiser" that was now further back because he had to slow down.

Someone passed the Cruiser and your mind actually thought it was still the cruiser and made the lights appear as if it was the Cruiser. That is normal. Most people do that occasionally. After thinking it over, the change in behavior of that driver, your mind opened up again and you saw it was a different car.
This same problem occurs in Witnesses in court, people actually do not always know what they saw. That is why our legal system is so intent on making sure that witnesses are real. Sometimes they will have five totally different descriptions of a criminal from five different witnesses.

If you ruled that out, then I don't know what happened. I do believe that this reality may not be what it appears to be, but even with that possibility, what controls it usually does not mess up.edit on 2-10-2017 by rickymouse because: (no reason given)
id call it a "localized dimensional shift"

Ok, I hear ya.
I mean to say sincerely, this happened in 2 to 3 tenths of a second, and i was indeed staring at my rear view mirror when it occurred.
I know how unbelievable it seems, but im no stranger to this type of #. I am very weary to draw conclusions and am skeptical of things (which is why i havent claimed absolutely that this was an alien, ghost, or that im in a coma/dream).
All i know is that an FJ Cruiser became an early 2000's/late 1990's sedan (i think domestic) in the blink of an eye.
That, and my friend made the same observation.
