Congrats on the 100 millionth anti-Trump thread on ATS. Have a cookie.

Either anti or pro-Trump, that's not my doing. But I guess it's his supporters that might have the most relevant input as I'm interested in their interpretation of MAGA. After all...that's key to his having been elected.

It refers to the time before Socialist policies infected the nation so that it festered for decades until it came to a head like a big giant puss pocket that burst forth spewing its poison everywhere when Obama took the helm.

Like what?

I don't know about a time period, the world is better right now than it was in past decades, so saying we need to go back to an earlier time is in effect saying we need to go back to a worse time.

I think that this is one of the problems, though--the slogan is about America, but you're talking about the world. I think that globalism concept/reality of the modern would is part of what is distracting from the focus on America, itself, by those in power whose job it is to do so (mostly).

America has taken a back seat to the rest of the world, and in times of prosperity, that's an okay thing--but when a country is $20,000,000,000,000 in debt, we cannot afford to be concerned about the world because our own house is not in order.

Our debt is in a good spot though, our debt:gdp ratio is low and we have no budgetary problems in funding the debt. It would actually be a bad thing to reduce our debt. National debt doesn't function like household debt.

Also, America is in a better spot right now, not just the entire world. Violence is down, we're not in costly wars, the economy is improving, people have more access to luxuries. Not everything is perfect but with the exception of household purchasing power, we're in better shape on every metric than we were 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, or 60 years ago.

I'm curious what era in American history you think this occurred during.

How can you set a baseline for greatness when some people dont think America has never been great?

Eh!

MAGA has been the war cry. It needs a footnote, though...what's the baseline? When exactly was that?
Maybe it's just me, but I really couldn't tell you what particular era is being referenced. A little help here? And be nice!

You're Canadian so you wouldn't know anything about being great.
I said be nice.

America was greater when people read the rules before starting threads.

Aside from word count, I don't see any issue. What's the problem?

I'm not even sure about that. Sure, the government is watching what we do... but so far have they actually acted on that to stop anyone from doing something? Don't get me wrong, we've implemented all the pre requisites for a totalitarian government, but we don't actually exist under one right now.

Trump was just too lazy to come up with his own slogan, so he just stole Reagan's.

Laws are passed every day that inhibit or restrict what should logically be the liberties of the individual. I'm not only talking about from the federal government, I'm talking about all over America, in every state, in every city.

Research just how many laws are continually passed that deal with "crimes" which have no victim--you don't have to trust my comment, but I promise that I'm not wrong. Whether you give that reality the same weight that I do when it comes to something that makes America less great, though, is up to you.

I don't think it refers to any one specific era. It may refer to multiple time frames in American history based on the specific agenda item being discussed. It's a general statement and a registered trademark used to rally his supporters... but I think you already knew that

The 1950s, 60s, etc. were great if you were a White straight man with money.

Otherwise ... /shrug

That could be said for any country in the western world at that time , it could also be said for Victorian era Britain but that was when we were at our height , when we truly were Great Britain.

Give me some examples. But even then, you're talking about city governments (which I'll agree have much more say on our day to day lives).

MAGA is all about the federal government, and for all of their ability to go full dictator... they haven't done it. We're as free federally today as we were at any point in the past 40 years. I would say that the last act of federal abuse was the draft for the Vietnam War. Since then, the feds haven't done anything.

Soon enough Trump will have us in another war, we can dress up in red, white and blue and count the dead; won't that be great.

we have Hispanic food in our grocery stores now - the horror!

didn't you whine about "liberal" bike paths in your town once, too. good lord...

If you want to pick out and target only one of my comments go ahead. But when I walk into a grocery store in mother flipping Wisconsin (80%+ German) and there is a Mexican bakery and the produce section is covered with migrant families who are speaking another language, you can bet your ASS I'm upset. They redesigned our local grocer to accommodate two new sections, a Mexican bakery and the new central America produce section. What's funny is since Trump this supermarket has changed and I can actually walk in and hear English language being spoken. That's making America great again!

Again, that's just one point I had.

Man, you sound awfully triggered.
