a reply to: Zaphod58 All you have to do is orbit it in a small form like a satellite, with enough propellant on board to deorbit it. Its not an instant strike 23 minutes after launch but it can be within the hour or even days later before the orbit deteriorates. In this instance speed is replaced with distance. See the Fractional Orbital Bombardment System of the USSR. it uses what is called a partial orbital system. It can loiter in the suborbital apogee for a longer period.

No, it won't. This guy has hundreds, if not THOUSANDS, of artillery pieces pointed at Seoul and he's just itching to give the fire order. That's tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of South Koreans dying...the very second that this guy gets an inkling that there's an attack in progress.

So a "surgical strike" would be anything but that, once it's all over and done with.

If there's any sort of termination of the leadership of NK, it's got to be done from within...

They are designed with a suborbital phase, that puts them into space, but not fast enough to orbit. Then they deorbit onto the target. An ICBM or MRBM, which this probably was, doesn't have the capability to put something into orbit without being modified.

It didn't fail. It was an SRBM, which doesn't have a lot of range to begin with. Their missile impact range is in the ocean.

What would happen if he fired it west?

It didn't fail at all, the rest of the world is talking about it...

This is what kim wants, he knows the world isn't going to declare war on him, because that would be declaring a war on China.

So kim huffs and puffs, while China says " Dude, slow your role ", but kim knows that either China will give him something to shutup or another nation will, of course secretly.

The only thing I wonder about is, does kim know his shelf life? Everything has it, and you'll only listen to that kid saying " hey do this " only so much before you react.

Who reacts and how is the big 64,000 question...

Got that right. It is the neverending war-they're just stepping it up. If we just keep waiting it out-they will eventually be able to do what they say they can do-kill us all. And we want to wait for that? We need leaership.

Meanwhile regular people live in fear as missiles fly overhead. How long can that go on?

I was actually talking about the South Korean SRBM. It was claimed that it failed and fell into the ocean just off the coast.

There was information on the link. There wasn't just a title and nothing under it.

If there was... why in the 9 hells are you posting unverified stuff? Isn't that how fake news starts?

But if you Checked PyongYang today the streets and City are EMPTY, Seoul however is teeming with people trying to live a life in the shadow of this #.

Its going to take some kind of deliberate beheading of Kim with a ready supply of back up if we miss.

SK and Japan will eventually be on board, China, not so much.

If you took an organized evacuation of Seoul it would take weeks to clear out the city, we couldnt even evacuate Florida with a week and half notice on Hurricane Irma effectively.

But if SK wanted to send a message, they would pull a few evacuations as test runs.

Lil Fatty would shart himself

But he made a measured point to say, i can hit Guam, you know that whole ring it in fire threat.
He's pushing the limits of all the people involved.

According to Defense Briefing SK fired 2 one successfully and one unsuccessfully. Simulating a return of fire on the airfield outside of Pyongyang that launched their Missile earlier.

At the time the OP was posted it was simply a breaking news headline. Geez.

Also, I am not the OP.

He's been making that point for months, and with multiple missile tests. This is just the latest one.

The initial reports only said one. But it isn't that big a deal. Missiles fail for everyone. Even US, Russian, and Chinese missiles, which are very mature technology fail.

Kim Jong-un knows no one will bother him now that's he's in the nuclear club. It's really the only way to get the U.S. to leave you alone (e.g. Pakistan). Not saying that it's a good thing, but it is a factor.

And, likewise, NK is not going to use the bomb. It's all posturing at this point. A mistake would have catastrophic consequences, though, so I hope they slow down the nuclear tests.

If Russia and China really wanted to show they wanted to strengthen relations with the U.S., they wouldn't be standing in the way of more UN sanctions. They would also be condemning and doing whatever possible to help remove this dictator. A nuclear exchange with North Korea can easily put China, Russia and other countries in the path of Nuclear fallout. So really they should have as much concern as the U.S. about putting an end to this out of control dictator.
