Like umbrax said, the bible was written at a time where no scientific knowledge of today existed. The conclusions people had to draw for nearly everything must have been spiritual or supernatural. Why should he believe a book of today, over one of that time? Did you know the bible makes 3 seperate references to the earth...BEING FLAT!

Amazingly, I found many more than three seperate accounts of the earth beoing flat in the bible. Well not amazingly, but rather expected. I mean really, how were they supposed to know.

Isaiah 11:12
Revelation 7:1

Now this one is interesting because of its clear implications.

Daniel 4:11 How could one see the entire world from the top of a tree, if the world was round?

There are about 50 references to "the ends of the earth, and I will have to go digging to find them all.

There are a lot of references just like this all through the bible. Referring to the world sitting on a foundation, or pillars in two instances. You can (and christians will) claim that these statements are metephoprical. Funny how they are so smart that they are able to distinguish what is metaphorical from what is not. Even though most of the time the more ridiculous statement is the one they take literally depending on what they are trying to tell you on any given day.

What christians are not capable of it seems is relating the time of the original writings in the bible. You know, this bible was written in parts over 2 thousand years ago, and in some cases 4 thousand. The most conservative estimates for the actual writing dates of the books in the new testament put it about about 300 AD. It wasn't even for several hundred years that the notion of a round earth was formally proposed. Even then, people were killed for expressing this belief. Killed by whom? Well who esle, christians. I mean, damn all those fools who try to tell us the world is round! Kill them all!!!!! So, of course the bibles references to a round earth is literal. It pains me to great extents when people try to claim otherwise. It is a true measure of their intelligence.

So, to anyone foolish enough to believe this nonsense, go here:

I believe what you see here is an exercise of ones own belief.
Go read the verses for yourself. Do they say the earth is flat?
No.
But some want to inject their own ideas into it.

in Isaiah we see the word corners.
The King James bible is an ENGLISH translation. ENGLISH people used the word corners.

H3671
כּנף
kânâph
kaw-nawf'
From H3670; an edge or extremity; specifically (of a bird or army) a wing, (of a garment or bed clothing) a flap, (of the earth) a quarter, (of a building) a pinnacle: - + bird, border, corner, end, feather [-ed], X flying, + (one an-) other, overspreading, X quarters, skirt, X sort, uttermost part, wing ([-ed]).

Its clear the bible is saying that they people will be gathered from the entire earth.

Isa 11:11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.
Isa 11:12 And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

It is VERY IMPORTANT TO NOTE that this prophesy is happening RIGHT NOW . The country of Israel was formed again in 1948 and jews continue to migrate back to Israel today.
God said this would happen THOUSANDS OF YEARS AGO and now you see it before your very eyes.

In Revelation 7:1 we see

Rev 7:1 And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.

The original is
G1137
γωνία
gōnia
go-nee'-ah
Probably akin to G1119; an angle: - corner, quarter.

Do you see the words flat earth?
Only in some peoples mind.

Now, lets look to the opposite extreme and see if the bible tells us anything more direct about this flat earth question

Job 26:7 He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing

Just like today, we know the earth floats in space .
Pagan religions all say the earth is held up on the back of some animal or person.

The bible teaches that the rapture will happen in an 'instant". This means that for some it will be day, and for others it will be night,, depending on what side of the earth you are on. (uh ohh.. I said 'side'. Does this mean the earth is square? )

Luk 17:34 I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.
Luk 17:35 Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
Luk 17:36 Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

They dont do farming at night. This clearly assumes a round earth.

Isa 40:22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

The word used for circle
חוּג
chûg
khoog
From H2328; a circle: - circle, circuit, compassive

So you can post what you want and give it your anti-christian bias slant, but its clear to the reader who has integrity, that the bible teaches a round earth.

Jake, are you really as dumb as your post???? Now, I am not going to get into one of the definitions you posted with the word edge, and the whole spherical objects have no edges thing, but I do want to get into something else to show what level of intelect you reside on.

Has anyone ever read these passages he referred to in regards to the rapture?

"Luk 17:34 I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.
Luk 17:35 Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
Luk 17:36 Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. "

This is what Jake provided us all. Many people have provided these same things to me before, and so I have looked at it about 1000 times.

I want this to be clear. I often criticize people like jake for not doing their homework and using that whole "copy, paste" function without reading the entirety of what they are looking at. This situation however, is very amusing to me. Jake, you are an idiot for what you posted. I know I will get in trouble for saying that, but it is the truth. How else would you post such an unthought out pile of horse excrement?

Lets refer back to luke, and his "rapture" verses that jake so graciously provided to us hoping no-one would catch his agregious error. He must have known it since he is such a good christian. Anyone want to know what it is??? Well, lets look closer, and this is about half of a bible chapter. Isn't it awesome how christian morons take things so terribly out of context that we are actually dumber for listening to them (I.E. Jake).

Luk 17:25 But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation.

Luk 17:26 And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.

Luk 17:27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.

Luk 17:28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;

Luk 17:29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed [them] all.

Luk 17:30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

Luk 17:31 In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back.

Luk 17:32 Remember Lot's wife.

Luk 17:33 Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.

Luk 17:34 I tell you, in that night there shall be two [men] in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.

Luk 17:35 Two [women] shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

Luk 17:36 Two [men] shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the thier left.

Luk 17:37 And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body [is], thither will the eagles be gathered together.

Did anyone read the entire chapter in context? Anyone??? Well, I will give you some explanation. There is actually verses about being there one minute and gone the next...day and night. So, Jake was right on that one, but what exactly were the talking about? The days of solomon? Reigning fire and brimstone. On who? The days of Noah? Hmmmmm, lets look into what these are all about. People were snatched away in the days of noah yes, and burned in solomon yes, but is this really referring to the rapture as jake illuded? Well, only if the rapture is actually for the bad people. This chapter is referring to dying in an unforgiven state. It is saying, you never know when you are going to die...god could snatch you up any minute, so be a good person. It has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RAPTURE!!!! It is referring to killing off people who are sinners in mass quantities, not rapturing people who are righteous in mass quantities. This isn't even an interpretation matter. It is a lack of research or a lie.

Jake of course knew this though...right? Here is a hint buddy, DO NOT INTENTIONALLY LIE TO ME AND EVERYONE IN HERE AGAIN. I WILL CATCH YOU. People might take you more seriously too.

On to truth. All I have to say is that you look foolish by saying great job. Just like the 1993 hoax of the finding of noahs ark on CBS that had christians all in an uproar looking stupid, you look stupid. Check out what you are told before accepting it. Jake, you are a liar, and you were caught in a lie. Now you backtrack looking like a fool trying to get out of what you said.

Yes, you were talking about the world being round, but as a typical christian, that statement is taken out of context. You wer USING THE RAPTURE TO DO SO.

The point you were trying to make was this:

The rapture will occur instantly, so how could there be references to it in the day and in the night?

Is that not EXACTLY what you were saying? You then stated a few verses from the bible that you clamed were referring to the rapture, and the verses from Luke were among them.

I busted you flat out in a lie, because I know you know the gospels. I am not foolish enough to believe you just missed it. You intentionally tried to lie to us all on several levels. First, you knowingly mislead us by making references to the rapture with unrelated verses. I know you did this, because you are not the first who has used those verses as defense for the rapture. (I also know this because you can easily do a google search on the rapture and find christians sites lying about the same thing.) After you lied to us about that, you then tied it into a completely abstract argument of the bible claiming the world is round.

Of course intelligent people would heed my words on this, even if they hate me. You are a fraud and a liar. I called you on it. It is funny how you never adress directly the things I catch you on. This isn't the first time. You always ignore my questions and hope that people forget what I say. Stop misleading us intentionally. Although I do think it is funny how you try to deny it afterwards.

To everyone else, this is a serious matter. If you do not understand what I am accusing this person of, please ask me to better explain it to you. It is critical, even if you are a person of great faith, that you do not take the words Jake has said seriously.

You are a liar. And you are making yourself look more and more like a fool.

You used text out of the bible to support your claim that the world was round. You did so by citing the rapture. You pulled out of the bible, in support of your round world in the bible theory, 3 verses from luke were used. You used them in the context of the rapture to support your idea.

So in other words what you are saying now is, we should believe what you said regardless of the fact that you were caught in a lie, because you were lying about something else? You really are way off base buddy.

Everything you said was relevant. Do not try to distract attention away from your FLAT OUT LIE by attempting to seperate something that you connected in your post.

my words

This clearly assumes a round earth.

seapeoples words -He changed the topic and then He responds with ad honim attacks

Now his MO has been to attack the person, call them a liar, and from then on discount anything that person says. Check out his rants about christian sites and people.
Lets continue

Trying to get back on topic, I posted this

The point of what I said is this

I wasnt talking about the rapture. I was talking about the bible showing the earth being round. He chose one part of my statement and gave it HIS meaning.

He does this alot.

Read the post I quoted and then read my response. He is way off base. . . rambling away.

seapeople did not want to go back on topic. He wanted to call me a liar so he could refer back to it one day and say he proved it.
I digress
I requoted my original post to once again try to get back on the topic
Post Number: 1168240 (post id: 1190133)

seapeople resonded again by calling me a liar...

Jake, you are a liar, and you were caught in a lie. Now you backtrack looking like a fool trying to get out of what you said.

Yes, you were talking about the world being round, but as a typical christian, that statement is taken out of context. You wer USING THE RAPTURE TO DO SO.

In an odd twist, he calls me a liar, and then says I was telling the truth, but that I am still a liar.
He explains this by telling me the point that I WAS TRYING TO MAKE.

The point you were trying to make was this:

The rapture will occur instantly, so how could there be references to it in the day and in the night?

Actually, my point was that it is instant...world wide...So it will be day for some and night for others.

Is that not EXACTLY what you were saying? You then stated a few verses from the bible that you clamed were referring to the rapture, and the verses from Luke were among them.

The verses from LUKE were the only ones that I posted about the rapture...and they were used to show that the bible knows the earth is round. Day for some, night for others.

I busted you flat out in a lie, because I know you know the gospels. I am not foolish enough to believe you just missed it. You intentionally tried to lie to us all on several levels. First, you knowingly mislead us by making references to the rapture with unrelated verses.

Again, accusations of lies...so he can later support his accusations by claiming he proved something

Of course intelligent people would heed my words on this, even if they hate me. You are a fraud and a liar.

What did I tell ya.

To everyone else, this is a serious matter. If you do not understand what I am accusing this person of, please ask me to better explain it to you. It is critical, even if you are a person of great faith, that you do not take the words Jake has said seriously.

There you have it.
This is his MO. Attack the source so any future posts can be discredited.

Now we saw him do the ad honim
We saw the accusation
We did not see any proof of his original post about falt earth or any lie
Read the bible for your self. That chapter in luke
Make your own decision

He does not want to stand behind his original "bible says the earth is flat" post so he keeps trying to attack me personally.
This is how I responded

I stand by the rapture.

But lets get back to what this was about

Are we not talking about the rapture in another thread?

Your like a little kid jumping up and down

SEE! SEE! I GOT HIM!! THE BIBLE SAYS THE EARTH IS FLAT!!!

Dude...honostly...your method of long posts and little substance and no authority is a bit boring.

I suppose it would be ok to move on to the rapture if you are reversing your previous position about the bible saying the earth is flat

What say ye?

So, does he care to examine the rapture or the flat earth statement?

Lets find out in his next post shall we?

You are a liar

LOL
Thats his whole arguement.

You used text out of the bible to support your claim that the world was round. You did so by citing the rapture. You pulled out of the bible, in support of your round world in the bible theory, 3 verses from luke were used. You used them in the context of the rapture to support your idea.

That is exactly what I did. I used the verses in luke that talk about the rapture that happens in an instant...to show that it will be both night and day when the rapture happens...showing that the earth is round.

So how am I a liar??

So in other words what you are saying now is, we should believe what you said regardless of the fact that you were caught in a lie, because you were lying about something else? You really are way off base buddy.

?????

I will say it again.

The bible shows the earth to be round.
The description of the rapture supports that.
More proof of an instant rapture can be found on ABS boards in a thread about the rapture...but the following verse should be all you need to go with Luke

1Co 15:51 Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
1Co 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

I understand that this is a global community and we are not expected to be coddled here...but are ad honims the norm?
I am new here and I dont recall ....
Is there a veteran member or moderator that can send me a link or just provide the info for me?

Thanks

Sheeesh!
Jake and Seapeople! Both of you are taking this argument to a personal level. Its a very interesting discussion. Lets all get along...

Btw, Jake..Last time i took high school geometry i knew that the words ends, corners etc are used for 2 dimensional shapes(even a flat circle does NOT have corners or ends) The words dont make sense when applied to a sphere. Maybe the bible shouldve mentioned something about poles or curvature?
Just cuz the bible mentions day/night does not mean that they knew that the earth was round. Day and night was supposed to be god's creation and no one really questioned why it occured.
Question: Is there a mention of eclipses and how is it explained? Curious...
