Here is a great example of an over-reaction by school officials and police. Due to an empty beer can at a football game, 75+ students were forced to go to emergency rooms and undergo blood and urine testing. I mean really, the cost and drama here because a few people had some beers! Nice waste of taxpayer money now that the school is going to pay for all those emergency room visits..... over beer....

www.foxnews.com...

As many as 75 students were detained and ordered to undergo blood and urine testing, all because one can of beer was discovered at a high school football game in New Jersey, a school official said.

The law requires that we send students out to be tested when it appears that they may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”

Adults with ties to the school district, though, said administrators went too far, punishing too many students for the actions of a few, which caused disruption for both parents and medical professionals trying to comply with the order, according to The Daily Record.

“Students then proceeded to emergency rooms in Dover, Denville, Morristown and Livingston,” Christopher C. Treston, a school board candidate, posted on his campaign Facebook page. “The emergency departments at Dover and at Morristown were not given any warning of what was coming, and were overwhelmed.”

Treston, who attended the game, told the Daily Record that he believes that of all the students eventually tested — including his son, a sophomore — less than five produced a positive test result for alcohol.

Fano has apologized to the students who tested negative. She said the school board would pay for the cost of testing those students.

Seems like the 5th amendment would cover this against self incrimination. If they didn't know who's beer it was, tough luck.

But these days law enforcement and the school system don't care much about constitutional rights.

What if they are slowly conditioning students into accepting a future totalitarian state?

so, 75 ER visits. 75 blood test and urine tests. If I was a tax payer in that school district, I would be livid that amount of money was spent hyperventilating over an empty beer can.......

That definitely fits the pattern for a while now.

WTF is wrong with this country.

I got caught drinking some booze with a few friends on campus in the late 90's and the guy basically just took it from us and said don't do it here again.

Sounds like admin with authoritarian issues. That is just sheer overkill.

Do they even have the right to do that ?

What next, calling out the fire department and SWAT team if a student lights a cigarette on campus?

Any school administration stupid enough to handle that situation in that manner should in no means be allowed near children!

Well according to the story, they don't even know if it was a student who drank the beer. They just found a can. Could have been someone else at the game.

So your more accurate question would be, calling out the fire department and SWAT because they found a cigarette butt on campus.

What do you expect from a state that Hilary won. With socialism you don't just share the money, you share the blame it seems.

Sure sounds like they are just asking for some knot-head to take a bunch of empty cans to the next game. Add a few empty cigarette packs, some butts maybe even some rolling papers.

I did high school in the seventies. How come there was only one beer can there? I bet there weren't even any pint bottles there. No wonder society is so wound up, they are not hung over half the time.

Dear NJ,

Wanna know why you're a laughing stock to the rest of the U.S.?

Here's your sign.

Wow. When I was in high school the local news literally ran a story where their reporters had filmed dozens of groups of students at lunchtime going out to their cars and various other spots downtown to light up the bowls n blunts because neighbors complained to the channel about it.

The school did not do a damn thing beyond searching a backpack or locker here and there based on teachers' tips to no avail. Granted, this was in Colorado but still lol.

This story is insanity. The problem is just one can of beer found. Poor kids!

Schools and Law Enforcement have lost sight of which way the money flows. They are paid by the very people whom they are sworn to serve. I think parents of school children lose sight of this too, since they do what they're told without question so easily.

They would be doing that to my kid over my dead body.

Better than even chance the beer belonged to one of the teachers. I don't think I could teach high school in New Jersey sober. I don't think I could be in New Jersey sober.

This should become the classic definition of "overkill" in all dictionaries.

Beyond stupid.
