I don't even get it. Is it because black people are often said to look like monkeys and monkeys eat bananas?

I'm gonna go with the reaction. The peel was tossed and landed on a large branch, it wasn't even hanging. If only that banana peel knew how much attention it was getting.

I'm going to out on a limb here, and say that this is the similar to the "trash dove" and the "pepe frog", in that your belief that something is racist, does not make it so.

We are really sorry that feelings were hurt and a non issue was blown up to massive proportions for the purposes of garnering attention, but that's where the buck stops.

Its the explanation given. "I hung it in a tree because i couldn't find a trash can". If it was hung deliberately, its kinda dumb. But i've known people who do random dumb stuff just because they revere the absurd.

Still....using a tree as a backup to a trash can....its hard to follow.

In light of the recent trending of racist memes, videos, and posts, I can see why some Black people may seem a bit hypersensitive.

A brief perusal of the posts you commonly see on ATS today, show a large increase in the number of blatantly and often aggressively racist posts that go unchecked. You can find a good sampling in this thread.

Yet anything that may have even a remote chance of being slightly offensive about certain religions or even saying anything about defending traditionally accepted terms like boy or girl, and the flood gates open up on you.

But some people and groups are considered fair game.

I think ATS is becoming the gathering place for the overflow from the sites that we once shunned. It seems the agenda has changed, and they are recruiting a different kind of member base.
