(The set up)

There are so much misunderstanding, propaganda , revisionist history and just flat out lies circulating about the civil war...

You have people who play up the the United States morality as "going to war for freedom , to free the slaves!!"

Which couldn't be further from the truth.. the north never sends their sons to die, nor did Lincoln or the US government have the political will..for emancipation..

You have people who play up the South's morality by claiming "the civil war wasn't about slaves, it was about states rights!!"

Except it was about states rights to keep slaves.. ALL politics back then revolved around slave and free states..but not because the free states thought slavery was a moral abomination..

It was because slavery killed your middle class and buisness owners can't compete with slave labor..

(The actual point)

I think the real problem is we have forgotten the most important part..

WHO STARTED IT!!!

Who actually started the Civil War?? I don't mean what group started it.. I mean who specifically???

What individuals does the paper trail of history pin it on??

Robert E Lee(if you don't know who he is your in the wrong thread)??

Jeff Davis(president of the confederacy) ??

Nathan Beford Forest??

Well no..

At least the first two thought rebellion was a HORRIBLE idea and they fought/served out of a misplaced sense of honor..

The actual perpetrators and who history should remember were a small group of southern slave traders who wanted to reopen the international slave trade..

Pro confederate people like to point to the fact that Lincoln had NO desire to address the southern slave trade as proof the Civil War wasn't fought over slavery, but that is only half true..

Theyvare right Lincoln and the North were NOT comming to free the slaves..

But just because Lincoln wasn't going to do it , doesn't mean the south doesn't think he will...

The Confederacy WAS FORMED out of the FEAR Lincoin would abolish slavery.. IT JUST WASNT TRUE...

Or at least it wasn't true until black soldiers and abolitionists made the war about slavery..

So why did the south think he the US was gonna invade????

Well because these idiots convinced them Lincoln was going to do exactly that.. They were called "Fire Eaters" .

In American history, the Fire-Eaters were a group of radical pro-slavery Southerners in the Antebellum South who urged the separation of Southern states into a new nation, which became known as the Confederate States of America. The dean of the group was Robert Barnwell Rhett of South Carolina. They sought to reopen the international slave trade, which had been illegal since 1808.[1]

en.m.wikipedia.org...

Notable Fire Eaters...

TextWilliam Barksdale Joseph E. Brown John C. Calhoun James Dunwoody Brownson DeBow, publisher of DeBow's Review Thomas C. Hindman Laurence M. Keitt William Porcher Miles John A. Quitman John J. Pettus, Governor of Mississippi, who would lead the state in secession[3][4] Robert Rhett Edmund Ruffin Nathaniel Beverley Tucker Louis Wigfall William Lowndes Yancey Roger Atkinson Pryor Maxcy Gregg

Using effective propaganda against 1860 presidential candidate Abraham Lincoln, the nominee of the anti-slavery Republican Party, the Fire-Eaters were able to convince many southerners of this. However, Lincoln, despite abolitionist sentiment within the party, had promised not to abolish slavery in the Southern states, but only to forbid it in the territories.[2] They first targeted South Carolina, which passed an article of secession in December 1860. Wigfall, for one, actively encouraged an attack on Fort Sumter to prompt Virginia and other upper Southern States to secede as well. The Fire-Eaters helped to unleash a chain reaction that eventually led to the formation of the Confederate States of America and to the American Civil War. Their influence waned quickly after the start of major fighting.

A small handful of individuals making a power play and roping everyone else into it with them... like just about every other war in history...

It was started by politicians who thought expanding slavery would profit them personally and were afraid Lincoln might step on that.

Lincoln had fought to keep any new western states that were added to the union to be free states. Before Lincoln's election the Slave states democrats had the majority in congress.. but if they added a bunch of new slave states. Then that congressional majority would evaporate..

Which would do two things..

1) it would hypothetically given the free states enough of a majority to abolish slavery..

Something there wasn't even remotely enough political will to do..

2) screw up their plan to reopen a booming international slave trade that would supply western expansion with slave labor..

They hyped the people up to fear something THAT WAS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN because they felt their buisness opportunity was being threatened..

They went back to their home towns and rabble roused everyone into rebellion ..they made up every lie they could think of..

A REBELLION ALL THE PEOPLE WE CURRENTLY BLAME KNEW WAS A HORRIBLE IDEA AND ADVISED AGAINST..

(The moral)

It is the same tired old propaganda tactic still popular to this day..

They Used demogogary to hype up the population with a slippery slope argument.. a logical fallacy that would get you laughed out of a high school debate class..

It was the "They are comming to get your guns!" Of the day...

Lincoln says he is gonna make any new states free states...

The southern fire eaters convince everyone "they are comming to free all the slaves and make your daughters marrry them!!"

The democrats say "we wanna ban any new assault rifles!"

The GOP convinces everyone " they are gonna ban all guns and go house to house confiscating them!!"

And I'm not saying we should ban all new assault rifles.. just that it is the same broken @$$ slippery slope argument in either case...

I thought it was possible this thread was about actual truth. You know...as in...it's all being manipulated and each side is programmed to fight for his/her own side...so to create energy, stress, motion, a clock ticking back and forth, etc...in order to keep the Earth spinning.

Oh well, guess not.

In a nutshell ... There was a Civil War was because the Southern States seceded. That would have made the country (as a whole) less than half as powerful.

Smart people knew this was a dumb idea.

There is NO other reason.

I think it was about money and power and yes slavery was a part of it but the northerners who now like to act so morally superior have forgotten a lot of the story. I dont have the time to learn to embed or whatever it is called but read a little about why the north and good ole racist abe did not want any new states to be pro-slavery. It was not out of love for the slaves or believing they were equal , it was about political power which goes hand in hand with money.

This link is from vanderbilt universities web archives. Read it and do some more research.

Don't you know that the Civil War was caused by chemtrails?

And this thread is in Geo-Engineering because it involves the planned Westward Expansion with slave labor.

I read some of this History while I was looking into Citizenship Laws, which presently is birthright citizenship since 1868.

60 years in which every new slave was born right in the U.S.A. Missouri Compromise, Dred Scott cancelling of Missouri Compromise, Civil War, Emancipation, a lot of hell to get to birthright citizenship. I'd hate to slide back now, on some slippery slope.

"But, but what about the hordes of pregnant women sneaking in to have their babies in the U.S.?" We need to build an Iron Curtain to remain the leader of the Free World!

Most people didn't give a toss about which color they were, as long as their wasn't a deed saying you were owned by someone. The problem with a racial conclusion to slavery falls apart when we learn , that free Blacks had owned their own slaves since the declaration of Independence. www.theroot.com...

it's easier to pigeon hole one topic and hammer it home.

take the suffragette movement, where only landowners could vote including women.
the fact poor oiks couldn't vote appears to have been erased from history under the illusion that only women couldn't vote or that so many poor people lost their lives during world war one was the reason us scum class were given the vote rather than emily getting hit by a horse.

however, poor women couldn't vote and like the case on topic there were racial overtones to the civil war neither of which should be ignored.
unfortunately it appears the point of this thread is to claim racism never existed in america and southern states were not arsed about slaves but a power grab, which should be equally repugnant but these days on here is perfectly viable.

I am sure you are right as well, when unrest comes to the surface something has to give it a reason. Or the unthinkable would apply . The Unthinkable being that at certain levels of civilisation incompetency occurs, principally because the human psych was never really wired, for the complicated living conditions it brings. Because this psych has no reasonable understanding of why it has to do certain things. It just follows and does what it is told to do sheep like, their is no belief or compulsion just a robotic compliance. Which is just as easily swayed in other directions. We are at such a high level of incompetency now, most people don't know how to feed and cloth themselves, and haven't got a clue how to keep a modern vehicle going. The point of no return is long passed.

Sorrry but that is just wrong...

There are countless letters and documents and EVERYONE specifically points to the thought that Africans were inferior. It was started by like some Belgian duke during the push to out law white slavery. He personally kinda created the "white mans right to rule narrative. Which caught on fast for any cultures who didn't want to give up slave labor.

Also I'm pretty sure the blacks owning slaves isn't true either.. if I'm right it was literally one guy who bought some friends and family as a middleman till they could be freed. Which gets twisted into a justification by lost cause propagandists.

They did in Africa.. but not in America if I'm right. It absolutely was not wide spread.. blacks couldn't own land.. how are you gonna own slaves if you can't own land to house them?

If American slavery wasn't race based then how come NO AFRICAN EVER OWNED A WHITE PERSON IN AMERICA????

The second Europeans stopped enslaving other whites, they instantly created the "African inferiority" narrative as a justification to continue slavery.

That is mentioned more than once in the OP..

Abolitionists "used" the black soldiers that fought for America to craft a narrative based around both

A) "not returning these brave soldiers and their families into bondage"..

B) to punish the south for rebellion.

The tariffs weren't $H!?...

Look up the tax rates...they were less than ANYONE in the world was paying.. and the same goes for the revolutionary war..

Both the founding fathers and the confederacy used taxs as a talking point, because EVERYONE hates taxes..

It's an easy sell, no matter how low taxes are.

The fact that Slaves are only taxed at 1/5 their value was a WAY bigger tax break than the import tariffs.

a reply to: JoshuaCox I am going to comment here. The South was leaving the Union. This was the reason for civil war. We can't divide our magnificent country. We must work at getting along. Even today we must work at it for a bright future together. The war was not over slavery. President George Washington, President Thomas Jefferson, and others owned slaves and had sexual relations resulting in illegitimate children. The people of the North today do lead ruder and more educated lives than the sweet kind religious Southerners today. I have lived 25 years on each side of the Mason Dixie line. These are things I have noticed. Slavery was not a moral choice. If you asked the blacks today if they wanted a free ride back to Africa they would not want it. I had relatives who came here as indentured servants, so it was a similar premise.... It is time to focus on regaining manners and respect for each other. Life is about creating and hard work. Not freebies gained from Obama's system.

As for people destroying our historical art around the USA, it makes them the same as the ISIS terrorists who blew up irreplaceable art from different eras and religions. Complete disrespect and stupidity. Art is important. It was made to invoke emotions. It is art. You may not like the historical issues and the commemorative historical art memorials, too bad. It is our legitimate history. They represent the truth. Find something positive to do like picking up roadside or beach side trash. Learn to contribute. Donate or volunteer to ease your anxiety and help others.
