HE said this IS elijah...

sure John said NO... but who would know the truth of the matter? John or Jesus?

I can't refer you to an existing thread on the subject, but I can offer an extract from my forthcoming "Moses and Elijah" thread (next year, if there's space in the programme).
+++

The last word of the Old Testament is God’s warning, or promise, that he would send in Elijah the prophet “before the great and terrible Day of the Lord comes”.
He will be reconciling the people to each other, “turning the hearts of fathers to their children”, in order to forestall the necessity of cursing the land.
In other words, his task will be a calling to repentance in advance of the time of judgement.
This counts as part of the work of maintaining the religion of Israel, so it is consistent with his role in history.

Was John the Baptist the expected Elijah?
Jesus said he was, and John the Baptist himself said he wasn’t.
I think the discrepancy is easy enough to explain.
John was not Elijah in a literal sense. He was not some kind of reincarnation. He knew that his questioners were thinking of the literal sense, and that is why he gave that answer.
But the prophecy was being fulfilled in a non-literal sense. John the Baptist was calling the people to repentance, to prepare them for the judgement brought by the Son of Man. He was offering the baptism of water, to save them from the baptism of fire.
Jesus knew that John the Baptist was fulfilling the function of Malachi’s prophecy, that he was the only “Elijah” they were going to get, and that is why he gave that answer.

Then maybe don't talk like animals are inferior to us then. saying it would be a punishment to be a racoon....and dropping down? yeah sure sounds like you see other animals as inferior.

Animals are inferior to us. I eat them all the time! I love a juicy steak or a rack of BBQ baby back ribs.

BUT I do not eat humans though in your Hindu beliefs many eat their dead believing the dead live on.....Damn .....how sick is that? Isn't it about eating the brain? You know eating human meat will make you sick, right? You need to tell your parents and grandparents...

Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord

It doesn't say, "I will send you someone thats like Elijah" does it?

And Jesus said specifically that John IS Elijah... even after John himself denied it

Perhaps John didn't know the scriptures though... ye think?

And there is NO other interpretation?

HE said this IS elijah...

sure John said NO... but who would know the truth of the matter?

John or Jesus?

So John the Baptist, well read and educated, who walked in the steps of prophet, as we are to do with Christ, so now John is Elijah?

Does this make me Christ since I walk in his steps?

Also they are not inferior they have survived this far in time and are better then us in different ways.
We have our intelligence and so do they just different for their way of living.
Life is life.

I believe we are told, and can know, as much as we are capable of grasping.
If we were fish dwelling on the ocean bed, how much could we understand from descriptions of walking about on dry land? What could anyone say to us except "Wait until you get there".

You want to restrict the possibilities to what you are capable of understanding?
Now YOU are the one who is limiting God.

Which is... nothing

not even according to the good book

there is a vast difference between a being that floats in the ocean... and one that understands existence as we do

We arn't God... gods perhaps

But i am not limiting any possibilities... saying reincarnation can't exist is

No, I think that both John and Jesus understood the way that scriptural language works, and both answered correctly the different questions they were asked (the disciples of Jesus sensibly began with "what does this mean?").

They were not obsessed with finding Buddhist teaching in the Bible because they lacked the courage to cut loose from the apron strings of the Bible and find them in Buddhist scriptures instead.

We don't understand existence. At the most, we understand our current form of existence.
I wonder if the fish in the sea are arrogant enough to assume that their understanding embraces everything that is possible?

But i am not limiting any possibilities... saying reincarnation can't exist is

Yes you are. You are excluding the possibility of a future existence that you cannot now understand.
I have never claimed that God cannot reincarnate us. I am only quoting his own teaching to the effect that he doesn't.

naaaah..lol

I already offered the whole comb ba Yah thing... and mansions prepared...

thats biblical for the most part...

though again... it doesn't say that "God doesn't reincarnate us" anywhere

at least you accept the possibility though.... which makes this thread Null and void

Those who believe in reincarnation reject Jesus Christ. Let me explain:

If reincarnation was real ...... would make the ENTIRE bible false.

1. No reason for Christ to die on the cross. When we mess up ..... no worry .... you get to do it again? Really then the hell with laws and morality, Right? Hey .... kill and rape all the way because I will NOT be held responsible..... instead I am reincarnated!! Not being held for my crimes?

2. Reincarnation.....who needs a resurrection....when you constantly come back...

Demonic teaching..... drawing you away from the truth....

incorrect

thats just Paulian thought

we mess up... all of us...

Has nothing to do with Jesus dying... he wasn't a lamb

Really then the hell with laws and morality, Right? Hey .... kill and rape all the way because I will NOT be held responsible..... instead I am reincarnated!! Not being held for my crimes?

lol

He also spoke of Karma... everything you do WILL come back to you...

in this life or the next "to come"...

guess you missed those parts

2. Reincarnation.....who needs a resurrection....when you constantly come back...

my thoughts exactly...

what do we have... coming back to a rotting corpse

Oh but we get a "new body" in said theology... still kinda sounds like reincarnation to me

*shrug*

Demonic teaching..... drawing you away from the truth....

Demonic eh...
