Is It Ok To Punch A Nazi?

I ask this question to those who are claiming only one side (the white nationalists, nazis, alt-right or whatever you want to call them) is responsible for the violence at Charlottesville.

Earlier this year, Richard Spencer, some apparently well known white nationalist, was sucker punched while giving a TV interview at some white nationalist rally. It was all caught on tape. Of course, progressives/libs absolutely loved the fact this guy got sucker punched unprovoked. So instead of saying they deplore violence and thinking through the implications, the libs do what they do best which make memes, musicals, and jokes about this guy getting punched. Here is the video of this guy getting punched.



Given all the memes floating around from this incident and even a New York Timess article asking the same question, I guess it is ok to punch people because of their views even if they aren't actually being violent. While I would certainly love to curb stomp this guy, the fact is doing so without being provoked merely because of his views would be wrong.

It appears to me that those on the left have forgotten what made the civil rights movement so successful. NONVIOLENCE. When Dr. King and other activist led civil rights marches against Southern DEMOCRATS to end segregation, the key to winning support from the rest of the country was the peaceful protests.

The images of peaceful marchers being attacked with water hoses, dogs, and billy clubs turned the stomach of most of America and helped usher in the changes in social policy and attitudes that we enjoy today in regards to race and civil rights. While the outcomes of the civil rights movement may have been the same sooner or later, I highly doubt it if Dr. King and others responded violently instead.

Antifa / BLM and other groups may very well have some valid grievances. However, when you force your views violently, even in the face of violence, those views will be lost on most people because the only thing they will remember is the violence. If you don't believe me, go ask the Palestinians how their jihad or whatever has been working out for them.

is it ok to punch a polygamist... because you don't agree with an ideology doesn't make your judgment "right".

you can't punch or kill an ideology, however, doing either to a person unprovoked should land you in jail.

It is not okay to punch anyone, unless you are defending yourself or defending someone else from a physical attack.

Exactly. And to those who are saying the White Nationalist started it, I leave a Mark Twain quote.

"Never argue with a fool, onlookers might not be able to tell the difference."

These hate groups have been holding rallies for as long as I can remember. They have been marginalized and no one really takes them seriously. Every time opposition shows up at these rallies it gives them the coverage/attention they desperately seek.

Had BLM, antifa, or whoever just ignored these Unite The Right guys, they would have just disappeared back into oblivion.

The justification of punching 'nazis' is just an evolved form of the 'knockout game'.

And guess what people ?

There is no justification for assaulting someone that's NOT doing anything.

I am against violence unless it is in self defense. I think what happened to him was wrong. I won't cry for him, but I won't cheer his getting punched either.

Not sure you want to make blanket statements like that - I'm fairly certain that the entire "left" doesn't feel that way.

While there is a certain primal satisfaction to seeing a known nazi hurt (see Inglorious Basterds), I can't say I condone what happened in that video.

Nazis do not exist anymore. It's like asking if its ok to punch a Girondin.

Should it be illegal? Yes.

It is never okay to be the initiator of violent force. Self defense is okay.

I brought it up because the theme being promoted in the media right now is that only the unite the right was violent and any violence against them was justified. Everyone was acting all shocked that Trump said both were at fault despite the fact other reports and police chief said the same thing. Those on the left are acting all and mightly like they'd never engage in such behavior.

Yet here we are six months ago with a some white nationalist guy getting sucker punched while giving a TV interview. The response of the left was memes, music videos, justifying the assault, etc. Even Obama's speechwriter, John Favearu posting on twitter he never gets tired of seeing it.

I just love the hypocrisy, inconsistency, and denial of facts that comes from you guys sometimes.

On the surface, punching someone that advocates exterminating Jews, gypsies, homosexuals and most if not all minorities doesn't seem like a bad idea. But, No matter how offensive someone is we shouldn't resort to outright violence.

The same question would be is it okay to punch a muslim, even though they advocate killing all non muslims?

Am i allowed to punch a male BLM supporter unprovoked just because of his ideology?

No you can't just punch a white supremacist unless in self defense or in defense of others. Same goes for any other human being.
