Just to remind everybody, Clement Freud was accused by three women years after he had died. He was not able to give his side of the story. We are told that , in the UK, a person is considered innocent until proven guilty ? Clearly not applicable to anyone with the name Freud.

Then in 1987, the year Freud was knighted, Sylvia told his wife that she had not been lying all those years before, and claims Lady Freud admitted: “I think now it’s possible that what you said was the truth.”

The revelations have also drawn new attention to Lady Freud’s own affair with Jonathan “Joss” Self, brother of writer Will Self, when she was 47 and he was just 16.

Freud first found fame as a celebrity chef and owner of a London club known for its lewd cabarets.

He later boasted that he had given the now-disgraced Rolf Harris his big break, after booking him for the club’s show.

Next stop was politics, and he became an MP in 1973, sharing an office with fellow Liberal Cyril Smith, who was unmasked as being a serial child sex abuser after his death.
