Yeah. It's really a bit unbelievable it got this bad. After night 1 a lot more national guard should have been there. It could have gotten much worse with the amount of firearms present.

I don't have to pretend anything because the town residents didn't do squat to stop them. They just ignored them and that's the best thing you can do in this situation. Btw the Alt-Right are just LARPers and mostly harmelss. You and others are just glad that you now have proof that "Nazis" infiltrated the US and you can let your hate flag fly. You're not better than they are and that's the truth you don't want to hear. Well the enemy is exposed better strike fast before it spreads and people start to think for themselves again. We can't have that.

I watched bits and pieces of the torch rally and they don't even knew how to do the proper Nazi salute. I was reminded why i never took the Alt-Right seriously in the first place. You really think they are real Nazis? Oh boy you better hope they never show up to any of the protests because they will not hesitate to put you in the ground. Good thing they are too busy making money selling drugs and weapons. Though i guess they aren't too happy that the LARPers are drawing attention to them either.

By that token, there are a LOT of closet Satanists on ATS.

Plenty of people defended letting the Satanists into schools under the same kinds of arguments many of us are making about this.

Here is the long and short of it:

If there is a law, it applies equally to all, no matter who they are or what they say or whether or not you like it.

The minute you start saying, "Sure, they did it legally, but ... we don't like that they don't think in a socially approved way ..."

Then we no longer have a nation of laws anymore because the next time this issue comes up, it could be a group you do approve of who gets denied because the people in power arbitrarily decide whatever they say or think is unworthy of the protection of the law even if they meet the legal criteria set down within.

You accept the the law covers all or it is worthless to even have laws.

Like dB says how were cops not pulling arrests instantly.

The NFL referees pull players with pads in quicker than they did. There should be hundreds of arrests.

Like every other Democrat controlled area where this kind of thing has taken place ... I think we know the answer. Someone wanted it out of control. That fits the agenda.

Bigotry exists on both sides.

The two sides are white nationalists gathered from across the country

and

Local liberal college town residents.

What occurred in VA is the fault of both sides of the fringe.

What occurred in Charlottesville, VA is this:
1) A town's council voted to remove a piece of sculpture.
2) White nationalists from across the country descended upon the town in protest.
3) A person from Ohio (not Virginia) seemingly intentionally rammed a car at speed into a crowd of peacefully walking counter-protesters. One killed, several wounded.
4) The Governor said they (white nationalists) should go away.

Exactly,

First they came for the white supremacists, and because I'm not one, I said nothing ...

Then they came for ...

We've seen this play out before.

Steve Scalise certainly understands that now doesn't he?

Or are we taking advantages of one incident to pump up our political beliefs?

Wow you clearly have no idea what you're talking about so all people who disagree with you are now secretly Nazis and read Mein Kampf as their bedtime stories every night. There is no indication that any ATS member in the rally thread were happy or glad that it happened. Respecting the right for free speech however is now considered as being a Nazi supporter. Gotcha. Be careful what you wish for because bull# like your comment made Trump possible. People are simply fed up of getting dictated what to think and how to react because someone could be offended by it.

It's possible. Like a lucitania.

But I don't know that blaming the Democrats solves anything.

Until last year I never saw these idiots at the primaries when I voted in the primaries in SC there were some of these idiots outside the property of the polling areas.. Now suddenly they think they are part of the Republican party.

Society needs to stop blaming each other and try and stop the idiots on both sides pulling the US apart.

Yeah, if you're respecting the free speech of nazis.

And for the record again; free speech is only garaunteed protected from the government, not private entities.

Do we live in a free society where ugly nasty people are just as free to express their sick and twisted ideologies, or do we live in a closed society where only those who believe a certain way should be allowed to live?

After yesterday, what's your best guess?

Yeah nutters are nuts. I have no political allegiance. Just pointing out radical ideas + nutters are not harmless. ANTIFA not harmless. White supremacists not harmless.

The way to combat them is peaceful nonviolent protest. They used to do political puppet theaters like bread and puppet. Now it's just idiots in guy fawkes masks, or dressing up like nazis.

Not a Nazi, bud.

My family gave their lives away fighting Nazi scum.

People are tired of being dictated how to live their lives?

I'm sure Nazism wouldn't be guilty of that. Keep on apologizing to self-righteous Nazi's.

Keep on insisting that anyone/everyone who doesn't bow down to their twisted ideals and respect them is just as bad as they are.

I have no malice in my heart. But Nazism? Are we truly that daft? Do we honestly need a history lesson about WWII already?

Jesus, if an Adolf Hitler rose into power today he wouldn't be invaded. We'd be reminded that we need to respect his rule of law (everything he did was legal), and that we can't stifle his freedom of speech (because that makes one even worse than a Nazi).

Progressives wet dream. Preach and spew all the hatred you want and have it defended. The minute someone decides that preaching Nazism in America isn't alright... attack them, belittle them, slander them - it's amazing.

Of course it does! It relieves them of accepting the fact that they have a Nazi and hate filled party! Makes 'em feel better.
