The idea of ''debate'' or presenting arguements serves little purpose to my mind. I pretty much now prefer to add to a thread and not debate it. I do not want to debate or argue, I want to discuss. And with that discussion, if I can learn from someone else then whoopie. If someone else can pick up perspective from what I have of offer then whoopie again.

Lately I have quit trying to debate the worthiness of Mr. Trump. His followers will or will not figure it out on their own and what I have to say about him will be proclaimed by me on these boards clearly and passionately. He is a scatterbrained fool. And here I add fool because more than anyone else, I think he has fooled himself.

Do you want an interpretation of what's going on? This sort of explains some of it from a rightward POV. We are essentially speaking two different languages that makes it important to understand why your facts and my facts are facts but also sewn together with conjecture.

It's the conjecture and opinion we are really debating.

Lol, you sound miserable.

The scatter-brained fool is doing better than you.

What's your excuse? Life's unfair?

His followers?

He's the gd president ace.

You can't take politics seriously because it's a flipping circus, all that's missing is the bear on the unicycle.

I'll give credit when it's due but I'll paraphrase esteemed news anchor Kent Brockman and say "Democracy simply does not work."

However I will disagree with Brockman and say democracy can work, for instance those nations who are ruled by a dictatorship don't get to vote for an @$$clown, whereas America does and elected an @$$clown despite credentials, experience and the plethora of syntax errors on social media and covfefe-you can see where i'm going with this so I will put my foot on the brake.

Now see? What you have done in this reply is exactly what OP was talking about. Demean someone else and ridicule their offerings. However I will try to converse with you.

Yes. Life is unfair. See? We agree on something.

And yes, he is doing better than me. But the truth of that statement is only true if one accepts a standard of success as pushed on us daily by the powers that be. Wealth, fame, power, being number one are all virtues extolled by the powers that be to keep us frothing at the mouth in our attempts to win.

So if you wish to hold to those standards then yes, I suppose you would think that I need an excuse. My success in that world is beyond your knowledge and moot to me.

I can only guess that your reply was directed to trigger me, which it did for about two seconds. Then I realized you were not attempting to engage in dialogue but rather just slandering and accusing. So I will leave you with that .

Agreed! Another reason to stop taking politics seriously in the US is that politics, for all practical purposes, is altogether pointless.

It's pointless for several reasons.

One is that the government is largely incapable of accomplishing anything; Congress is gridlocked into irrelevance.

The other is that ever more we are seeing people ignoring the laws on the books; there are laws against hiring illegal or undocumented aliens but employers ignore those laws and hire them anyway. In the county I live in there's a $100.00 fine for ignoring Jury Summons; last week they sent out 100 summons to seat a County Grand Jury.....only 17 people showed up.

Another reason politics is pointless and discussing it even more so, at least in the US, is that the politics of "ideas" has been replaced with the politics of "identity". There's little to debate! You're assigned to the "team" of your skin color and gender. There's no Congressional floor debates about how best to balance the budget. There are no debates about how to best solve a problem and I don't see much in the way of debate about things like "Conservatism" or "Liberalism" or "Libertarianism". We don't even see debates about economics anymore.

Its simply been reduced to one side versus another side based upon grievance and envy and greed.

all we are defending on ATS really is our own points of view and I think the entire charade is being taken way to seriously.
. . .
This is one both sides again, facts are not pretty much ignored, its like we have forgotten how important actual facts are.

I for one take the future trajectory of my country quite seriously.

The fact that a boorish/crude violator of Constitutional Law, Campaign Finance Law, Anti-nepotism law, and traditions of releasing tax returns for examination of possible conflicts of interest, and etc. is President, and his enablers defend him by dismissing and normalizing it, bodes ill for the country's future politics.

It is a fact that Republican Senators were voting yes on a bill that no Republican wanted as law simply because the President, who didn't understand it or care to understand it, wanted it to pass. Then he branded the no voters as "letting American down".

Impeachment is a political act. As long as Trump supporters have a large enough number that Congress people feel that would be political suicide to bring forth impeachment articles, they probably won't. They are thereby themselves normalizing the violation of laws, norms, and traditions. Craven they be.

I actually would like to reduce the number of Trump supporters through persuasion, so that the polls will reflect decreasing Trump support; enough so that even the craven may feel safe to Dump the Trump.

Thank you. I will end my rant now.

This is a recording from 1967, It describes events we see in the news today with shocking accuracy. Everything was pre planned and they only have one goal.

So, it's suffice to say, You stop, so will the rest of us. At least I will. I hope that this reply was punctuated enough for your liking. Sincerely, openyourmind1262

NIcely put Ket. Those different languages, it seems to me, are based in fundamentally different ways that we understand our existence. Until we understand this all of our arguments are fruitless because at the bottom of it all, those who believe that they have thought it all out correctly would not need to change only one little thing here and there but rather would need to make existential changes in thier perspectives. And I think that this is to much to ask of anyone. Me to you or you to me.

I won't go so far as to claim I've thought it out 100% correctly, but I have thought it out in a way that makes logical sense to me based on what I know about myself and what I have observed in others and what I have learned about the world around me.

the only way you can forget these threads is to not even participate in them.

Its best to leave those threads alone. They have STDs.

Nice rant, good points. So will you be the first to pledge to take your own advice?

Yup.

dont get me wrong I am still going to post and post what I have been posting but I don't think I will be taking any of it as serious as perhaps I have been.

Does that mean we don't have to take your political posts seriously either?
