Malaysia, Indonesia Muslim groups call for Starbucks boycott for LGBTQ support

Muslim groups in Malaysia and Indonesia have called for a boycott of Starbucks because of the coffee chain's support for LGBT rights.

Malaysian group Perkasa, which supports a hard-line form of Islam and nationalism, this week called on its more than 500,000 members to stay away from Starbucks coffee shops. This week and last, leaders of Indonesia's second largest mainstream Muslim group, Muhammadiyah, with an estimated 29 million members, denounced the chain.

Looks like there is difference in tolerance and it is starting to show. A "hard line" form of Islam is calling for 500,000 if it's members to just say no to the Buck's.

Perkasa will be largely ignored as they usually are even by the malay muslims in malaysia .

The question is how many will be open in 2 months??

Businesses should steer clear of politics anyway.
Why alienate a percentage of your customer base when you could keep your trap shut and sell to everyone?

Starbucks is yuck anyway...go to Costa!

The only thing worth boycotting is cell phones and Las Vegas casinos.

Anyone even remotely familiar with those 2 countries knows the governments stance on the LGBT community, this is merely another expose' of that which is considered appropriate and acceptable to the population.

Fundies are generally intolerant all around. Muslim, Christian, doesn't really matter. This is pretty standard (Christians have boycotted Starbucks over stupid things, as well).

I've been boycotting starbiffs ever since they refused to send their coffee to the soldiers in the Middle East wars.

Great post. People should understand that most fundamentalist leaning religionists are intolerant, or most of them at least, not just literalist Muslims.

Jewish literalists throw stones at little Jewish girls in dresses.

It is what they do with the intolerance that matters, like flinging homosexuals off roofs.

The LGBT push is being used to normalize sexuality and "abnormal" behavior, while abolishing tradition. The Muslim push is being used to demoralize your religion and faith, while feeding fear/prejudice. The political identity push (the new religion), is being used to destabilize the family, along with our peers, while feeding fear/prejudice. All in the name of votes, control and cheese pizza.

True. But our world has a history of religious intolerance from ALL religions.

We even have a nutty African " Christian" kidnapping and killing in the name of his sect.
