The real question is not why Trump lies but…

Why he lies so much!

Also why people support him despite his blatant lies

Can we say the same thing about Obama, oh about 20 times that could put him in jail over...lol? Or Bush...didn't that cost a few trillion on one lie? Or Clinton...or...

I agree. But I tend to believe, that it's either - delusional (i.e. - "if I say it - it is truth) or a deliberate attempt to make us (the population) distrust each other and the natural of objective reality itself.

White lies, lies to protect one's sense of self, lies to get or keep a job, the lies we tell in daily life are in the private sphere and, while perhaps hurting others, is primarily on oneself alone.

But again, my question is about why Donald Trump lies? Not about politicians or 'people' but Donald Trump alone.

He can't help himself. It's part of his narcissistic personality disorder.

Sometimes the lie is to enhance his image, sometimes the lie is to debase an adversary.
Sometimes he lies because he's in an embarrassing situation.

Like the Lester Holt interview where he was asked who set up the dinner at the Whitehouse with James Comey and trump offered "I think he set up the dinner. He asked for it" because it made Comey subservient in his version of events.
The actual event where trump personally called Comey and Comey having to cancel dinner plans he had with his wife made trump look desperate. And considering he asked for loyalty at that dinner and had denied asking for loyalty he needed this to be Comey coming to him to ask to keep his job. The one he didn't need to ask for because he was only three years into a ten year appointment. But that lie was to make sure that trump looked like the big cheese and Comey look weak and defensive.

So lots of reasons most because he suffers low self esteem. ( he should because he's not a nice person. )
He wants people to like him. They say in person he's very personable. I know another man with NPD and he too acts very cordial, tells lots of jokes, is always ready with a tale to tell. Usually about himself. Usually a lie or greatly embellished. And initially everybody likes this guy. Until they can never tell a story about themselves and if by chance they do he doesn't give them much attention. And this person lies all the time.
Stupid lies, unnecessary lies always to embellish him and his experience while not even noticing yours.

It's part of his neurosis.

The amazing thing here is you picked "lies" to quote that aren't even lies.

-Time magazine... obviously Trump was cracking a joke about having been on the cover the most of anyone.
-Trump was speaking from statistics on Chicago, a place which averages 2.09 people murdered per day.
-The 109 people figure was an actual number at one point in the process. www.washingtonpost.com... -keeps-changing/?utm_term=.35ddf5bb8bf7 Fairly sure if you dug into it, the President's figure was accurate per whatever SitUp he had in front of him at 3 AM the morning after the order was in effect.
-Not a lie, just a difference in expectations versus explanations.
-Uh, who were the two? en.wikipedia.org... Trump's final candidate submitted to the Senate was Ag Sec Sonny Perdue, who was submitted in mid January. Who's the liar here?
-Because Bush released 113 this makes mentioning Obama's releasees a lie because why? What Non Sequitur devilry is being applied here? Because GWB screwed up royally it makes an equal or great screw up by the president following him into the office a screw up which must not be pointed out lest the pointer be falsely called a liar?
-Yes, NATO fought terrorism with US dollars. The inclusion of this is in itself a lie. Trump's argument against NATO was accurate, and centered on the fact that, at past levels of funding and effort, NATO would be DEAD if the US opted to withdraw. In other words, they've skied America's coattails for decades.
-Again, he's obviously talking about what HE BELIEVES is appropriate measures against terrorism, not just general "I'm fighting terror" horsecrap. I can sit in a lawn chair in my backyard with a rifle and say "I'm hunting caribou" and that isn't a lie, I just won't be in any way successful at it. My neighbor can come home from a grueling hunt on the tundra with a caribou, and say "Ha, you're not hunting squat" and not be lying either, as he's saying "What you're doing is ineffective and not what I consider 'hunting'"

So, got any actual lies, or just a list of subjective inconveniences?

Trump is a narcissist. Narcissists lie. Narcissists lie for aggrandizement, to manipulate specifically to a purpose, to manipulate generally (typically to keep people off guard while they constantly have to sort through untruths, half truths, grain-o-truths and out and out word salad), and sometimes just because they think it's funny and it tickles their ego.

I believe that Trumps narcissism is often encompassed by and at least accompanies a broader spectrum of sociopathy, but that is just an opinion. His narcissism is indisputable by anyone with any background in mental health however.

I also believe that his particular flavor of pathological lying is often quasi-delusional, as in, he actually believes what he says at the time, which may change daily or even moment to moment.

Why does Trump Lie?

Being extremely careless without intent is not lying - the US government has made this much perfectly clear.

I don't think Trump tells deliberate lies very often. I think he sometimes believes what he's saying (even when it's wrong), sometimes hasn't paid attention to the details enough to remember them (and just busks it), and other times has seriously misunderstood the thing he's talking about.

The problem is that he isn't responsible enough to care in any meaningful way. But that's not such a big problem, really, unless serious harm arises as a result.

He's not a professional politician, his live delivery is terrible and he bungles near enough everything he talks about. But the fact that he's not a professional politician is why people like him, so they are very forgiving of his foibles. And that's fair enough, imho.

I think, in time, his frequent 'misspeakings' will be regarded almost fondly, ranked with Dan Quayle's continuous verbal pratfalls, or W Bush's... well, 'bushisms'.

The press measures every president against George Washington's cherry tree. But that was a long time ago, and probably never happened anyway.

6000 jobs in Aberdeen...reality? around 120, some part-time. Or was that a Trump 'slight exaggeration?
Come to think of it, he told a lot of lies in Aberdeen.

Let me make an analogy that every fatheaded American can understand. Some people can't get enough, some consume in moderation and some have shed the weight of ignorance altogether.

President Trump is a narcist, perhaps racist, definitely a jackass. He is not a liar. If he lied I want to see the quote, date and time when he lied.

Such a joker you...it's in the OP. If you're that far in denial...well, there are 12 step programs.

Trump lies

Maybe because he's always done so
He's always gotten away with it
Nobody's called him out
...

but why
'why' ?
Whyyyy

forget about the lawsuits
and banktruptcy claims
..
Why does Trump lie ?
...

Could be that on one level,
from a purely narcisstic point of view
he needs applause and approval

from a political point of view
he needs to be 'seen'
'seen' to be delivering
....

Think back to "now'
1 year ago ....

Trump was promising what exactly ?
Hmm ?

Where's he now on his promises ?
Not too far
..

His bloviating masks it all
distraction, bullying, distortion....
hiding from reality ...

"'The press report only that which is good about me"
In sum

All of whch paints to a wannabe
erzatz King or monarch in the making
....

Any how, i repeat
Trump lies because he can get away with it
and always has done so

His failing memory will allow him
to continue evermore ;p

Clowns can't lie. Everything's just a performance and not to be taken seriously.

Especially clowns with self image issues; They will say anything to support their fantasy. Believe me, it's just covfefe...
