And guess what all this stuff I'm alluding to (which is now driving leftists en masse to openly committing mass scale acts of political terrorism including murder and otherwise), those universities campuses are the primary breeding grounds of all this stuff.

The premise of your OP is the very toxic ideology that does one thing and one thing only... Subvert the common discourse of debate by blanketing the defense of an opposing rational as offensive. Resulting in the stifling of free speech.

It's a sad brain fart, that I'm not sure folks like yourself are even aware that the mechanics of your ideology are tried, tested and historically rooted in tyranny.

Actually graduates are the most likely to turn right wing conservative in later life, the reason is that if they have achieved the middle and lower upper class lifestyle they went to Uni for in the first place they tend to then see the world more from a self centered point of view and realize there own vested interest in keeping to themselves what they have earned.
Politics is as you know though a game of shell's and lies, the poor are often persuaded to vote right especially in this day and age where the media is used so very effectively as a propaganda tool but the rich seldom vote left with the exception of some obscenely rich whom inherited there fortune's and they tend not to be left but middle ground, in the UK they would be the OLD liberal party, aka the Wig's.
But at Uni level most NOT ALL student's do tend to be left wing, once again it is often down to vested interest, the left often offers and truly intends to make education more accessible and cheaper for them for example so not voting for the left for them would seem illogical.

Like I say I am centre left and have always been so, So not communist or crazy left but I do believe in limited state intervention, social housing, free education and health and government intervention to keep essential industry's and utility's in the control of the country or at least subsidized so that they can survive economic hardship and remain viable with the government's help during the bad time's and in some cases such as essential transport, Mail, Water and some energy supply I do believe that those sector's should have government retained control if not total monopoly, that of course make's me extreme left to some view point's.

Im what you would consider "on the left" in most ways and these new trends on both sides disturb me.

One facet of which is the problem of indoctrination on college campus..

Of course then again i felt that all through school.

I had returned to Lurker status because of many of the things you address in your post.

I was hoping for a better response, but your post is proving much of what you stated to be true.

It seems that many on ATS have divided themselves up into "tribes". How is that for a new control tool? It is not about the sharing of ideas, or even the disagreement of ideas around here anymore. It is all hands on deck and to your battle stations, the moment a new thread is introduced. Memes have become the new mascot. Meme=Massively Effective by Minimalizing Everything.

I don't know if it is about pushing an agenda, or venting all the hate and meanness that would bring serious repercussions in their personal life, or are we seeing the buds of their successful campaign in bringing us into their complete control.

I don't know how this is going to play out but ATS is becoming something different. ATS is a reflection of what we are becoming. For those of us that don't like what we see, we have to be better. If that doesn't work then we will have to let it go to seed.

And seeing how they won the last election, I figured by this point we'd be back to some semblance of ATS normalcy. But the rhetoric to paint anyone who disagrees as an enemy seems to be increasing.

Now, why would a political party who won the presidency and most of the seats in government still be as vitriolic and partisan as before the election?

This isn't about snowflakes wanting safe spaces. This is about a large number of users being concerned at how ATS has become an alt-right echo chamber, filled with racism and sexism and islamophobia and endless bashing of liberals and frankly anybody who isn't also on the far-right.

And the second, the SECOND, anybody is challenged on any of this, in charges a brigade of alt-righters to shout down the protests and throw insults around.



Look, I'm seeing a ton of personal attacks by alt-right members here, 4-channers enjoying the trolling, while a few people are trying to say look, ATS is going downhill. A lot of users are being driven away by the increasingly toxic environment here. So what can we do about that?


Maybe it's time to think about getting rid of the Political Mudpit category. I get why it was created, but it's fostered a poisonous atmosphere on ATS which has spilled over onto every other board. Maybe getting rid of it might help things get back to being a little more polite?

Or just get rid of the political stuff entirely. Do we really need a conspiracy theory forum that has been taken over by Trump Is Great and to a lesser extent Trump Sucks postings?
