ATS In Decline?

So basically, this is a thread where people are saying that we suck.

FIRST time I visited ATS you weren't able to use SOCIAL MEDIA to sign up.

Goodness me no not at all. Its just there is a way of being skeptical that doesn't have to be downright rude and insulting! A ufo only site would be ahem dull but in areas where proof is so unlikely not point yelling for it. We all (unless we are one of those high up elite people we talk about) have the same access to proofs and truths that everyone else has and no more

Another thing I've noticed though is the big increase in new members that post then disappear the same day most often, are they banned or delete their own accounts for some reason? How are they getting to even start threads? I thought you had to post a certain amount before being able to start a thread? Or has that changed?

Ooooh I didn't know you could sign up with FB......although I had noticed ATS were on FB but also noticed that some of the threads that appeared were absolutely laughable and did bugger all for ATS's reputation that could account for some aspects I'm sure probably the increase in new members posting then deleting their accounts as I mentioned previously

It is about the quality.
Those 20 "right" leaning threads posted here could be boiled down to 2-3 threads because the content is the same. It's the same 15-20 members circle-jerking eachother off from thread to thread insulting absolutely everyone that disagrees.

I think more and more liberals will be joining the likes of you (hopefully). I know that I started to pull away once I started to see a major shift towards statism. While I see more and more of a divide between many left-leaning folk and reality, I'm even more concerned about a year or three down the road as their opposition reciprocates. I don't think anyone is immune from manipulation and I think the only reason the left was targeted first was the innate righteous indignation (misplaced or not).

For me, I'm not even really bothered by content but I'm not a huge fan of how so many interactions go down.

I suppose its easiest to focus on ATS, but I think what we see on this board is actually a filtered insight into a much larger issue. So much is about keeping score and "winning," regardless of reality or cost. Even the obsessive scorekeeping of whether this is a left/right leaning site is indicative of this behavior. The focus on spurious topics (like it matters whether there are more members from one side of the political spectrum or the other) makes for horribly, horribly predictable and repetitive interactions.

I think this is all exacerbated by an almost.. annoyance.. towards any thread or discussion that is a bit different outlook on things. It used to be that if most came across a conspiracy they thought was silly, they might at most ridicule. Now, we actually see visceral, angry responses as common. That behavior seemed to really kick off with flat earth stuff. As silly as it might be, its like some feel their very existence is threatened and respond with borderline rage. Its downright odd.

I think there are a lot of factors at play, but importantly, none are specific to ATS. If anything, its a bit insulated here.

When it comes down to it, its up to all of us. The more members that respond in kind, the worse it will get. I have even been seeing normally even keeled members beginning to get pretty damn snarky. Frankly, its hard not to, but we could just focus on those that are obviously capable of reasonable, respectful discourse regardless of agreement.

More often than not, we tend to focus on those that get under our skin more than anyone else.

I've been here since 2008 with a couple three years hiatus.

Coming back? Yes, it's different.

I remember when we fought to post Breaking News.

Research and research again.

The backbiting was at a minimum and if it happened it was ignored by 'do not feed the troll' posts.

Now. Things have changed. I suppose natural in a way.

The loss of some cornerstone members has not helped.

So - if ATS has changed and you want 'back' what we had?

Be the example.

Do it yourself.

What the heck

From where I'm sitting on the conservative side of the fence, I think many on the left side of the isle around here are as guilty of hateful, corrosive, divisive rhetoric and personal attacks as anyone. There's plenty of it in equal measure coming from both sides. Don't just call out the ones you disagree with politically. It doesn't work that way.
